[IMG] I'm playing an Arcane Trickster. So far, I haven't used any armor since they all seem to have apply Arcane Spell Failure. Since I'm part rogue, I have a high dexterity, and haven't used any mage robes neither because it sais "Maximum Dexterity Bonus: None". When I equip a robe, my dexterity isn't reduced on my character sheet, though it shows bonuses from items that increase dexterity.

So, what's the deal? Does it affect dexterity or not?

(Pardon my english, haven't slept in a while ;) )

as far as I know, robes don't affect DEX in any way (unless they have a special DEX related bonus/penalty).

Let's say, you have 16 DEX. This means your DEX bonus to the AC is +3. So if you equip a full plate, your dex bonus gets reduced to +1 only, because that's the highest number full plates allow. In the case of a Leather armor, +4 is the highest allowed number (unless it's magical, etc.)

    Actually for leather it's +6, +5 for studded, +4 for chain shirt, +8 for padded :) .

This game lacks normal magical clothing. I wish you could craft some. An Arcane Trickster looks a bit silly in a robe, IMO. Same with monk robes, but those are an option if your Use Magic Device is high enough.

Haha... I wish I could start a mage with a wizard cap of con +6 and a t-shirt of strength +6, he would look so ripped in his t-shirt!!

If an item says maximum dexterity bonus: none, it means just that, there is no max dex applied to the item. So if you had a +10 modifer to your dexterity, all of that would get applied to your armor class while wearing that item.

So, "Maximum Dexterity Bonus: None" is a good thing, especially for high dexterity characters.

Ah, thanks all. I read it like "no dexterity bonus is allowed" when it said none.

    Cheers.

It's not surprising you were confused. Grammatically, the phrase is inaccurate -- it's saying that the Bonus is None, rather than that the Maximum is None. It should instead read "Dexterity Bonus Maximum: None".

Hey mods, can you stick Obsidian with the GMotW icon? :D
