Beating the Fire Dragon *spoiler warning perhaps*

    [​IMG] I'm currently trying to recover the strenght belt from the Fire Giants, though I cannot beat the Fire Dragon. I've got:

    Balthazar - Rouge/Wizard/Arcane Trickster
    Khelgar
    Ammon Jerro
    Qara
    Zhijavae (spelling?)

    Qara get's him down to about half with her high level offensive spells, mainly Horrid Wilting, though she only has 3 of those. Issac's Missile Storm, Magic Missle etc. doesn't seem to work, neither the Dispel and Spell Breach, though I could be wrong about them. Nothing visual happens on her, and her health doesn't go down. She seems to regenerate as well... true?

    Any tip on beating this thing would be greatly appriciated!

    Yes, she does seem to regenerate.

    I didn't use Ammon Jerro, but apparently his Devour Magic works well to remove the dragon's protections. Zhjaeve can cast Harm a few times as well as the Energy Immunity: Fire spells; and depending on her level she has things like Destruction, Flame Strike and Hammer of the Gods. Oh and Body of Stone provides lots of protection for Zhjaeve too.

    Hm, it seems impossible for me to beat her. I get her down to ~1/5th of her hp, but then she just heals up. 'been trying to beat her for 1.5 hours now. Pretty bad game when you actually stop play because it's too hard. I know other people (obviously) have beaten her, though I simply cannot. Feels wrong to have paid hard earned money for something like this to happen...

    Well, even if you cannot beat her, she is not essential to the plot. Leave her be.

    In case you don't want to: Did you try letting the Fire Giants beat her up a little first? If you talk to her, she wants you to kill the Fire Giants and agrees to help out. Apparently you can double-cross her and have some "help" from the Fire Giants. I can't speak from personal experiance however.

    Also, try to describe better what you have tried and what happens to your party and maybe we can help.

    It is just a side-quest. Furthermore, I say God bless Obsidian for putting a good, tough fight into the game. The Fire Giants (and most other fights in the game), in comparison, are a cakewalk.

    Energy Immunity: Fire is a must. The cleric can cast this on the entire party. Ammon Jerro isn't so hot, IMO. Instead, take the paladin and have him Smite Evil a few times on her.

    One way to do it is to let Quara do the work.

    I made sure my party was spread out and that the dragon would keep away from Quara. This is because of that annoying fire breath-thing it's doing sometimes. That way, it won't kill your entire party at the same time, and you kan keep it busy long enough to fire away every Isaac's Greater Missile Storm and Empowered version of the same Quara has. It's all about time, really.

    Make sure you buff up before the fight too. Every protection and the like you've got.

    Finally brought her down! Decided to let Khelgar, Casavir and myself (thank you Lord for Tenser's Transformation) pound her down to half, 1/3 HP, then when my Tenser ended, me, Qara and Zhjaeve just blasted her away with Issac's and Lightning. I don't think I've ever felt so relived by winning a fight in a computer game :p .

    Maybe I was higher level than most of the people posting here; I did do most, if not all, of the side quests. I had little trouble beating the dragon and the fire giant king in the same fight. I think it came down to me and Khelgar, but they weren't even injured at the end.

    I took:

    Belisarius: Pal 11/Divine Champion 5/Neverwinter Nine 1
    Khelgar
    Elanee
    Ammon Jerro
    Sand

    The spellcasters did all I needed them to do: remove the dragon's buff spells, then the thumping began! I was drooling when I saw that dragon hoard!!! Hee hEe!

    Mordenkainen's Disjunction, Greater Spell Breach, and Greater Dispel Magic (in that order) are key, IMHO. Then again, I was prepared for the fight...All my melee fighters had high fire and spell resistance. Khelgar landed about 12 stunning fists, and my pally used 3 Smite Evil, and 1 Smite Infidel to take that dragon down. I was defeintely buffed and ready for the fight.

    Batha was harder to beat. :)
    I went to the dragon first and lied to her about helping with the giants. I proceeded to the fire giant king, where after the dialoge the dragon crashes the party. I chose to get the best of both of them. My team was made up of Khelgar, Zhiljane (You know who I mean), Quara, Grobanir and PC (FighterWizard/Eldritch)
    In my first attempt I let loose on the dragon, just to be killed by the remaining giants.
    The Fire Giant camp offers perfect terrain to beat the dragon rather easy.
    Just run back to the waypoint. The dragon is to big to fit through the posts of the gate. I parked my casters close to the exit, let Khelgar (with Fire Immunity Spell) run around and kill some giants, whilest PC and Grobanir messed with the dragon. As soon as the giants are down my casters missle stormed and who-knows-what-ed the stuffing out of the poor thing without being put in harms way.
