My game is unhealthy (some spoilers)

Well, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My party consists of the following characters:

-Hekkadar (male human Fighter - protagonist)
-Viccy (*wolf whistle*)
-Yoshimo (thieving backstabber)
-Aerie
-Haer'Dalis (personally, my favorite character)

These characters are around 9-10th level. I've only finished two major quests or so, plus some minor ones (the circus, the tanner).

So that's the problem - Viccy, Aerie, and Haerry all have abysmal Constitution scores, 9, 10, and 9 respectively. I know there is a belt in the sewers that raises Constitution, but I can't divide that among three people!

Hekkadar's role is essentially the meat shield and meat cleaver. He has decent AC at -2 or so, and has more than fine HP, especially with Vampiric Touch and Draw Upon Holy Might. His HP is around 80, but can be gotten around to probably 95 or so if he needs to.

Viconia's role is just the healer. There seems to be a bug where she can't do things from a distance (except for a few minor spells), so she's just backup. She's gotten herself killed a few times (thank goodness for the reload button and a newly acquired Rod of Ressurection). Her AC is the highest at -5, but she's on the front line, and has around 50 HP.

Yoshimo's role is the scout, archer, and lock-picker. He does fine with AC (around -2), and has great HP (around 75). I have no complaints with him so far.

Aerie's role is the spellcaster. Handled the Warden and a few salamanders by herself, while everyone else was stunned. Her AC isn't very good at 5, and her HP is horrible, at 40. But she's usually too busy casting spells to be badly hurt.

Haer'Dalis' role is for fun-ness, lore, and melee backup. This is a serious problem, as he has around 48 HP, and an AC of -3 or so. He can probably manuever out of danger with his Offensive Spin and various spells, but he's only been in my party until very recently, so I'm not so sure.

So, that was long. Any ideas on how to play well with such low HP?

 

bah Level up! and take another Fighter you'll not get very long without at least two Tank, if you don't mind Evil char take Korgan, if so Keldorn, Minsc, or Jaheira Btw the belt only give ye 18 Con for a limited times! so beware, and only "fighter" class can benefit from a High Con score, The other class stop at 16 (+2). Hope that's help

 

I have to say that's a very weak lineup.
You do need more tanks for a proper fight. But take Korgan you'll loose Aerie, take Keldorn you'll loose viccy. And you have your reasons to dump Minsc and Jaheria right?
Despite it sounds like the game is easy, it's actually very hard. Either change your party or level up very quickly.
For your party you *could* take valygar, he and Yoshimo can backstab two enermies out of the fight. Valygar duel wield katana is very deadly too. And you *may* need a proper mage. Aerie level up very slowly and Haer-dalis is not very good.
For experience you can talk to the shadowmaster now, he gives you some good items and good experience. And take the trademeet quest, it's easy and has plenty experience and items.

 

Actually, this is my umpteenth time playing BG2, and I mostly chose the characters out of pure interest (romance with Viccy, tryst between Haer'Dalis and Aerie, Yoshimo's betrayal/redemption, etc.). I do intend to find and have Valygar join the group. But I don't suppose he'll have decent AC (although pretty good HP). My "pure" mage will be Imoen (post-Saemon).

 

Yeh it takes good skill to pull off with this party in planar prison etc.
What I think now is Aerie can handle the cleric spells, you probably need a mage but you don't need a full time cleric so I think viccy is a total waste.
Actually I used the same lineup myself. Aerie and haer-dalis, yoshimo. Except I romanced with Jahera and I'm a sorcerer. I got really stuck in Firkraag's place. It was just no fun with no fighters. And it's way too dangerous have yourself as the only front guy.

 

You could give that belt to H'D, then have him be a front-line tank. Aerie has enough protection spells that she doesn't need it, and Viccy's AC and MR should provide her some protection.

Honestly, I'd say your best option would be to alter the party. Valygar actually has pretty good AC with his family armor, and comes with one of the best Katanas in the game. Since there's only five of you, you don't have to dump anyone if you don't want to (if you do, trash H'D or Yoshimo.)

 

I´d rearrange the whole party almost.

Since you protagonist is a fighter I would add the following party members:

Minsc - Okay enough as tank and he´s also the funniest character in BG. Cant live without Minsc.

Jaheira - Okay in melee if you equip her with a scimitar and shield. There are som great scimitars. Plus her cleric spells do alot to your party protection.

Aerie - Well, the HP doesn´t matter when you´ve casted Stoneskin and Mirror Image. A great girl and also a nice romance

Nalia - Another Imoen when Imoen is gone

I leave the 6th spot empty until I get Imoen back so the members I have and want to have when Imoen gets back get as much exp as possible.


In short:
"You"
Minsc
Jaheira
Aerie
Nalia
Imoen

Which will leave you with practically 3 fighters, 2 clerics, 3 mages and 2 thieves.
If you equip them right that is.

You learn as long as you play

 

I chose the characters deliberately. I've played too many times with Minsc, Nalia, and Jaheira. I was going for something interesting. I just want to know how to handle the situation, not to just get out of the whole thing.

 

If it's really hard, just let Yoshimo solo as you would with a thief. Or duel Yoshimo to a fighter for a better result. Backstab your way.
Or you can add Valygar or Jan to join the backstab untill you get enough levels. Jan can cast mislead and backstab as many times as he wants.
Or use Haer-dalis defensive spin + stoneskin + mirror image + fire shield to attract all the attacks, viccy heals him all the time. And rest of your guys jump in later to attack.

 

One note, you said that Viconia can't do anything from a distance, its probablly because she's blinded. It may not list it but it happened to me. You can check by taking her alone off and checking the fog of war. If it doesn't have the normal vision radius then she's probablly blinded.

You can go to shadow keeper to fix it.

 

If you get the belt that enhances your CON you only have to pass it to the character that is leveling up. They will get a couple of extra HP at each level even if only one person wears it most of the time...

 

Or lower the game difficulty to 'normal' when levelling them up. You get max hp then.

CXWinds-remove curse will also do the trick.

 

Oaz, are you going 5 party or 6? Hmm I can think of a couple of ways to bring some presence to your front line...
Work on Haer Dalis' AC quickly. Get it to about -6 at least, with defensive spin you can give him some melee presence on the front in tough battles. If he can wear it (dont remember) give him amulet of power as well. Your fighter should be wearing helm of Balduran. Give viccy ioun stone of hp improve from graveyard. Viccy prolly needs to level up and get a decent holy strength. Cloak of sheild is nice as well. If you have money I think you should try to clear umar hills, theres two liches in there that are easy to beat if you have some proundead scrolls (if ure using tactics forget it, liches remove proundead in it). Dunno there are a couple more things you can do, ill try to remember some. Get Aerie tensers asap if you can as well.
