I used to have auto play on my gaming CDs - when I close the drive, the CD plays. Now it doesn't do that. AFAIK, nothing's disabled. Anybody got a clue?

Well, let's check. Go to My Computer, and right click on the drive that you use for playing CDs, selct Properties, and once the window pops up, select Auto Play from the tabs. Make sure the program that you want to use is selected by checking the box that says "Select an action to Perform". Press "apply" and/or "OK".

That *should* solve your issue. IF it doesn't it might be a problem with the actual program you use to play your CDs. BTW, what program do you use to place CDs? :rolling:

And if that doesn't work, launch regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

Make sure the value for AutoRun is 1

I was more about gaming CDs than musical ones. For music, I have Media Player and I just go into that and play from there. Or (heaven forbid) use the radio! ;)

I did what Kitrax said and I don't have an auto play tab under Properties. It's General, Hardware and Sharing.

It was just strange that I had auto play with my gaming CDs and now I don't. As I said before, I haven't turned anything off or changed stuff around. So far, the only game I can get to auto play is Sims: Makin' Magic.

    I'm using Window2K. I'm a schmuck. :)

I don't understand this regedit stuff. I'd rather not muck around with internal programs.

    Might try this

I haven't used it, so I have no idea whether it works or not. Oh, it's for XP.. but it might work they probably have the same reg keys and whatnot.
