[IMG] Well, after seeing some of the few reactions to me mentioning this thing in the RBP thread, I was just interested to hear some peoples opinions. I'll get the ball rolling with mine...

I'm going to buy a PS3, it has nothing to do with me being a so called "fanboy" of Sony, it has everything to do with the games. There are some really nice looking games coming out at the beginning of 2007, which is when I'm planning on buying the PS3 since buying it at launch would be impossible.

Yes the Wii and 360 are interesting, I enjoy playing my friends 360. I might even get one later down the line, but I want my PS3 first. The PS3, though rediculously expensive, is relatively a good deal in my opinion. You look at the specs and stuff for it, and think how much it would cost to make a computer equal to that...

I've been a console gamer longer than a PC gamer, I'm also a fan of being able to play 2 player games, just having a laugh with some friends. Whilst you can do this on PC, it enevitably leads to you playing over the internet, and it becomes less social, console games offer the social and gaming, without having to worry about ping rates and things. I admit that some genre's are better on PC than on console, such as RTS, and thats why I play PC games aswell :D

Well, I personally am looking forward to being ripped off by SONY :p if it means I get a PS3. The price is alot yes, but it gives you access to alot more than just a games console, and in my opinion is worth it. :)

The last console that I bought was my Playstation, back in 1997. I haven't bought one since, and I don't plan on changing that. The prices of these "next-gen" consoles are insane. Wait at least a year before you buy one, Sony dropped the price of the PS2 because of lagging sales, if enough people don't get caught with the new and shiny bandwagon, the same will likely happen here.

Buying a console at release is a bit silly as well, given that they only have a few games, and these are outrageously expensive as well. £60 for a game? Sod that. If you do shell out the cash for them, what happens when you finish them, and are left waiting for the next? "Backwards compatability!", I hear you cry? Then why not stick with what you have, and get some new games for it, or build a new pc, or just wait?

I was interested in the Revolution, I admit. This was because of the back catalogue it came with, and its price tag. However, Nintendo isn't aiming this console at me. It's appealing to the masses, and I think the games are going to reflect that.

As to playing with friends, some of the best times I have had have been when my friends have brough PCs/laptops around, or I to their houses, and we have played over a network. It's not hard to set out, and it's much more enjoyable, especially since it gives us all access to the games we enjoy.

No way in hell I'm getting a PS3 - probably won't even get a Wii (gah - such a ****ing stupid name) despite a streak of fanboyism for Nintendo - simply because I'd never use it (I have a Gamecube - barely played it...).

OTOH, I think that Wii will be a far better deal than PS3 because it's a) innovative, and b) cheaper. Nintendo may be aiming at 'the masses' - but hell, that's innovation, because they're not aiming at the masses who already play games. It means that they'll be coming out with different things (as well as the good old normal gamery stuff) than the norm, and have the funky new features of their console to back it up.
Of course, maybe they think the masses like **** games - I have no idea what kind of stuff they're thinking will appeal to them.

PS3, however, will just be more of the same.

The last console I bought was a PS as well. However, I am now seriously considering to buy a PS3 once it comes out.

    Why?

It has games that I am interested in (mainly GT & FF). It is backwards compatible, there are some PS2 games that I want to play. The other consoles do not have any games that I am interested in. Games aside, it might even be useful in other things, which would be an extra bonus.

The XBOX 360 will still be the main man even when the PS3 comes out. Plus, Microsoft will have to drop the price of the 360 when the PS3 comes out, so just keep yer ready's handy and wait.

PS3 is such an unoriginal name. They should come up with something original, like the Pii.

    *joke shamelessly stolen from CAD-online*

My last console was an Xbox, which I love dearly, but I'm going for a PS3 next.
Halo 3 (which I'm worried about after the disappointment of Halo 2) cannot compete with Metal Gear and Final Fantasy XIII

The only console I'd be interested in would be Nintendos Wii but for one thing all the games are for kids. Metroid looks cool but that's not enough to get me to buy it. The emulation sounds cool, as it would take the annoyance of getting all my PC ones working correctly.

But the main reason I'm not interested in consoles is the horror that was the PS2. Now, I'm sure it had some good games, and I'm not normally one to gripe about sub-par graphics, but the hardware was complete garbage. Now matter how I tried I couldn't get descent color on my monitor. All my other consoles and DVD players and VHS player worked fine, except my PS2. I posted on some board about this issue and someone said that PS2 just can't handle outputing a composite signal and that I would need to buy some rediculously overpriced cables to get reasonable color quality. All my games had dull flat colors that paled in comparison to even an Atari 2600(I am not exagerating either. I own one.) I even hooked it up to my computers monitor and still the same drab lusterless color. I have no idea how this console sold like it did considering the complete lack of quality hardware.

Expensive, though some title might be worth it. However the price tag is really, really ridiculously steep. I am a Computer fan since it allows me to so much more than just play games. I don't what to say except that I personnaly like playing with a mouse and keyboard and I feel unconfortable with a gamepad. Yes I've bought the PS2 but the games were mostly ok, while the PC titles I've bought were really better. 600+ Bucks for what? A game console? WTF Sony WTF?

And by the by: the Wii has got to be the lamest name ever created. I don't think Nintendo has understood that the codename must be lame and the real name cool not the opposite. Plus A freakin TV remote? WTF Nintendo WTF?

*shrugs* I got a PSX back in the time to play Symphony of The Night, and I haven't bothered buying a PS2, nor will I bother for the PS3, nor for that crap Nintendo Wii.

I'll stick with my vintage consoles, thank you very much.

PS3 is going to be better than 360... they've had all this time to play 360 and find its errors and fix them in their own system...

I'm pretty happy with my new PC, thank you very much, but if I am to buy a console in the future, it is probably PS2 or PS3, depending of the price, selection, and moddability (yes, I fully intend to download my games from the net). Been thinking of the retro-consoles too, but emulators are enough for me.

Even though Wii is surrounded by a lot of hype from both the company and the always-so-loyal fanboys, I still remember the disappointment Gamecube was. It had exactly 5 games worth playing for about two playthroughs: The Windwaker, SM Sunshine, Metroid Prime 1, Eternal Darkness, and Luigi's Mansion. And most of them weren't exactly for "M" tastes or that long-lasting. N64 wasn't much better either, so why would Wii be different from the family-oriented line of Nintendo?

XBox360 isn't a choise either, since XBox had a pretty limited selection of games (sports and racing for the most part). MS is also very infamous of all kinds of "anti-piracy" measures, only starting from DRM and all kinds of patent-infrigment threats. Furthermore, I read from a local magazine that XBox360 eats electricity like mad.

Gamecube sucked - but N64 was excellent. No idea about what you're complaining about there - unless you have 'Ho noes! T3h kiddie g4mes are t3h bad!' syndrome...

N64 did have some pretty good games, true, but weren't there kinda... few of them? Of course, this when comparing to the previous console, SNES, and the rivalling newbie-of-a-console PSX. ;)

The PS3 is going to be over priced the first year or two. By that time passes, the system will be out dated and we will see another system being released or hearing about a new playstation, xbox, etc...

I may buy one after it has been out for a year or so, just like the PS2.

Well, I've been waiting for the PS3 ever since it was first announced. I completely freaked out once I got my hands on the E3 coverage for the PS3 and its accompanying games...and suffice to say I've started saving already.

I'm getting it the day it comes out.

The way (imho) people will decide will be on the strength of the games. Wii has Mario (yay.see me leap with joy for the little plumber *yawn*). Xbox 360 has Halo 3 (hmm, dubious about this).

PS3 has Metal Gear (*does backflips of joy*), and Final Fantasy (*dies of joy*).

Still, the prices are anotehr interesting concept. I was intending to buy an xbox 360 the day the PS3 was released, in order to catch the drop in prices, but I really want to move to Sonto catch the games. I've got my ol' xbox, and while I love it to bits, the amount of games isn't too good. SOny has such a huge amount of licenses for new games that they seem (to me at least) to be the way to go.

Anyway, for all those who're sticking to their PCs, how long will it be before you're all forced to buy Vista ( for the price of a console) to play your new games?

I think most games for quite some time will be both Vista and XP. Games are just starting to require Windows XP.

Hrmm, I hate to admit it, but I probably will end up with all 3 new consoles at some stage, although the PS3 will definitely be the last. I'm way too much of a MGS and FF fangirl to pass it up if there are exclusive installments to be had on PS3.

I just caved and bought a 360, which I have to say is great so far. It'll be even better once I'm able to use it online. So far as I can see, the Wii is going to provide an interesting mode of control and fantastic party games because of it, the 360 has all the achievement things going on to add extra longevity to games, and the PS3...well, it has....the same games we were playing on PS2? The same controller we were using on the PS2? Yes, yes, tilt sensitivity, I know.

Personally, I never had an Xbox, so the 360 is gonna be really great once I can download all the emu's and pick up some second hand titles. I haven't heard anything yet about whether the PS3 is going to be backwards compatible, but it would be a bit ****ty if it wasn't. I already have a Cube, PS2, dreamcast and now a 360 whapped into the back of my tele. I need to get an AV switcher badly as it is.

And yet a part of me doesn't want the older consoles to become obsolete because their discs run on the newer ones. I like having a megadrive that I can get out now and then to run original carts. Still, I guess that's progress's price.

Ok I have to admit...my mind has changed...well kinda.

I've decided to invest in a 360 this summer hopefully...I enjoy online gaming, especially FPS, and I've played on my friends 360 alot and decided that its got a great community, and the games are alot of fun. Plus I know quite a few people with 360's who I don't get to play games with that often so it'd be nice to be able to arrange stuff with them...admittedly first I need a job, but baby steps eh ;)

I will definately look forward to the PS3, but the 360 has had a year to work out the bugs, and I will probably wait a year for the PS3 for the same reason...its amazing how your feelings can change so drastically over time :p

I will probably get the PS3 or the Wii (looks fun), but I will avoid the 360 like the plague.
