    Hey guys,

I'm going to be purchasing a new phone within the next week and after extensive checking out of phones from various segments, I have decided on the three phones - N90, N91 or N92.

Here are my considerations when deciding which to pick:

*Big screen with very high resolution
    *Best camera possible
    *Best video recording capability possible
    *Music capabilities are not important
*Size and weight of the phone is not an issue as long as it is technologically the best of the three
*Wide range of supported media formats, applications etc for maximum compatibility
*Durability - this phone is going to last me atleast 2-3 years
*Price is no constraint...I can afford anything upto USD 1200
*Speed...it needs to be VERY fast when I am doing stuff like sending messages, loading applications, taking pictures etc.

Now keeping this in mind, which do you think would be best of the three for me? I'm in Sydney at the moment and the N92 is yet to be released. I need a phone ASAP since my current 6600 is pretty much dead...is the N92 good enough to warrant using a friend's spare phone till it is released and then purchase it, or is the N90/N91 good enough??

Between the N90 and N91, which is better? Note that I am currently leaning towards the N90 because it has the clamshell form factor as well as a bigger screen and better camera. However, I am concerned about the stability of the phone as I have heard that this phone has software issues.

If you guys could give me your opinions in order to help me make a decision, I'd really appreciate it!

All your above considerations being equal, I'd get the one that gives you the longest battery live between charges - to me right now, it feels like my phone is more on the charger than actually being used... very annoying ...

    N92= :money:

The N90 is an awesome phone and performs very, very well. Besides, it's been out for some time, so Nokia had time to polish it's flaws. If I were in your shoes, I'd settle for the N90. I have worked with this baby, and it simply blew me away.

Thanks guys!! :) I'm going down to my local Nokia dealer to demo some of the phones today again...and hopefully make a purchase by the end of the week...when I will have to travel again.

By the by, is there any noticeable difference in quality in the cameras between the N91 and the N90??

Well, judging from the Nokia site, the N90's camera might be actually be a bit better.

The N92 is a TV phone.
The N91 is a media player phone.
The N90 is a camera phone.

Not really. Both are 2+ megapixels.

I should tell you up front, however, that the N90 *doesen't VIBRATE*. Yes, yes.

What?? Are you serious? How am I supposed to know its ringing while I'm in class or in a movie?? :( This is bad...do you think that is a serious negative or its worth the price tag anyway?? I was thinking N91 is looking good as I demo'd it today and the camera quality is EXCELLENT!!

Of course I am. I am, after all, SP's official cellphone guru.

*shrugs* I don't really give a f*** about vibrate, TBT. I have an old 5165, and I don't have vibrate, and I just plug it on silent when I'm at school or at a movie theater. If you have caller ID, it's no big deal as you can just call back.

Honestly, I thought a bit stupid that such a high-end phone lacks vibrate mode. But in answer to your question.. I personally prefer the 8800/8801, but the N90 is definitively worth it. I have field-tested this puppy and was more than satisfied by it's performances.

It's all up to you, dude. Are you willing to sacrifice vibrate mode? If you are, go for the N90. If not, check out the 8800, which is another high-end phone, which works superbly well and is definitively a gorgeous phone.

Ehh...yeah, I guess I am willing to sacrifice vibrate mode...my 6600 is conked for ages and doesnt vibrate half the time anyway.

    Yeah...I think I'll stick with the N90! :)

I guess I was just VERY surprised that a phone of such high caliber which has just about every frill there is lacks something so basic...is all. :D

So was I. Still, the N90 is an all around great phone, even though I haven't had a chance to test the 3G functionalities, because the WCDMA band the N90 possesses is 2100 MHz, which is exclusive to Europe. Here in Canada, WCDMA is to be deployed in the existing 850 and 1900 bands, FYI.

Hmm...after looking around I have realized a few things.

Firstly, the N90, N91 and N92 are not the only good phones in the series. In fact, the N80 is BETTER than the N90!!!

Secondly, It has a better camera, it has the newer OS which is going to be a good thing as time goes by and newer programs come out which are incompatible with past OS systems.

Thirdly, the phone is smaller, lighter and looks SWEET!!

Fourthly, its actually a bit cheaper than the N90...

Lastly and most importantly...it has VIBRATE mode!!! :D :D :D

I have decided to get the N80...anyone have any reasons I shouldn't get this?? I'd appreciate hearing any negative points about this phone before I go ahead and buy it.

The N80 is also an excellent choice. I'm not exactly fond of Smartphones... but this puppy is great... 3G GSM in the 2100 frequency for Europe, a mimiSD extension slot, a media player, a 3+ megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and among others.

IMO, I would more likely buy the N90, since I don't care about vibrate, but the N80 would prove to be a most satisfying phone for your needs, I'm positive.

There has been reports of the Symbian OS being a bit unstable on this perticular model, though... but nothing too dire. There's also reports of "SIM Registration Error" in 3G service zones. A firmware upgrade will fix that. Ask the guys at Nokia if the phone is still plagued with those problems... the info I have is a bit old.

Ah okay, because a friend of mine has an N80 and she says its great. Plus I used it for like a day and I have to say I am very very impressed by the quality of this phone. And I'm not too chuffed about the software issues...I'm told its not too debilitating and like you said, upgrading the firmware will fix that so...YES!! I'm getting me an N80!! :D

No, the Symbian OS bugs are not debilitating, just mildly annoying, just like the "SIM registration error" message. They're just minor eye-rollers. It's a good idea to regularly get software upgrades for a Symbian phone, though... Smartphones and Symbians are more vulnerable to viruses.
