***You may not wish to read if you don't want to know too much about Drizzt & posse***

I don't know if anyone has attempted actually fighting him but I was 'stuck'. I had invested 5 points into Scimitar's and they are a 'rarity' in the game. The powerful one's that is. So I fought him and his devestating crew. Eight times. The first five or six times I lost the battle in just a few rounds. My Fighter is 17th Lvl, with 160+ hp's, -12 AC and a -7 THAC0!!!

So I had to 'break' one of my battle rules which is "all my characters survive the battle or reload and fight again until they do". Not this time. I used nearly 11 charges from the Rod of Ressurection in my 8th battle attempt. But i finally prevailed.
I felt like Clint Eastwood was holding a .357 Magnum to my head and grumbling through gritted teeth "Do you feel lucky punk?... well do ya?..". He then pulls the trigger, it mis-fires which gives me the time to whip out my .22 Cal and shoot him in the 'gonads' because "this punk feels lucky indeed!"

I escaped, I don't feel all that victorious because EVERYONE in my party died, cept course my Fighter who was reduced down to 27 hp's. In fact some of my characters died 2 or 3 times in the battle!

BTW - Drizzt just MAY be the most powerful in his party of warriors but WULFGAR would be an extremely close second. In a couple of the battle's he took out my Fighter ALONE! He has a 'devestating' Hammer that returns to him...hmm? And it only has those kind of special abilities in his hands only..hmmm. Otherwise, found on his dead carcass is a +3 2D4 Warhammer.

BRUENOR is a strong fighter as well and dealt out 25-30 pts of damage consistenly. He apparently made all of the 'special' items for Drizzt and Posse'.

There is a shapeshifter named Gruenyvr(sp?). She's the only one that was out of place. She sucked. Downed in 1-2 rounds.

There are a couple of other Archers, one of them has a +3Bow that doesn't require Arrows, it creates its own 'phantom' arrows and they seem to be 'seeking' missiles that follow you until they strike.

Another is a Thief/Assassin who can hide at will, in the daytime, without covering of any sort, out in the open. His name is REGIS.

Then there's Drizzt. The multi tasking ranger who can attack 5 times, drink a potion and move 15 yards to the next opponent in 1 round. TRUE, completely. It's cheating code for the NPC Drizzt! Unbelievable! He stikes and does 30+pts of damage and I counted that my party did 180 +pts fo damage to him. This is an ELF right? Lower constitution and stuff? A Ranger right? Perhaps around 16th lvl? Then NO WAY could he have 180+ hp pts, he must be mid 20th lvl easy, and he could hit my character on a 16 or better. My Fighter needed a 18 or better to hit him.

Well in the end this as per my Clint Eastood scenario above "this punk got lucky..."

But I now have a +5 Scimitar BABY!

Ah, that's what I like to read. Someone who didn't exploit to win this battle by running off screen as some have to the point where they can take on this party 1 member at a time. Good job!

On another note. The Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite movies.

    Syl...

Ohh, I see I forgot to mention the detail that Drizzt and Posse ambush you. Yep, while you are 'Between' Map locations. True ambushes just like in the City Districts. How Cheezy is that!? You can't prepare because of the hours between map locations. And you cant even quicksave because you get the vile green line of BS "you cannot save at this time".

If you potion or spell up the effects are gone by the time you get to the 'mid location' ambush site.

Agreed, Unforgiven definitely was a 5star film among many 2star film's of the 90's. Then again Clint did some great work in several films recently.

Eww...have you ever read all the books about Drizzt and his gang? theres about 15 of them, i have read every single one. the way that you described Drizzt and his buddies was, well, im not sure. But they are VERY powerful people. You Wulfgar (Battlehammer), who has a magical hammer than he can throw or use in battle. its called Aegis-Fang, forged by Bruenor, his foster father (The dwarf, yeah), as a gift. You also said something about an archer that has unlimited ammo and a powerful bow? If its a female, It must have been Cattie-Brie, Bruenors foster daughter. I dont remember the name of her bow. You also mentioned a fighter/assassin? was it a human? if so you are probably looking at Artemis Entreri, Drizzts' arch rival. if it was a HALFLING then it is most likely Regis, the mischevious theif and friend of them all.
Personally i think that Drizzt should be as high level possible for a ranger, and his friends should be very high level also. They have got to be the most complex, popular characters in the forgotten realms world.

[IMG] I have also read all those books, and I also ran into Drizzt's party in my game. I was a good guy (and intimidated), though, and so I talked my way out of the fight by telling Drizzt that I was a good person and didn't mean him any harm before (he assumes that if you have his Scimitar, you killed him in BG. Me, I was just playing an edited game and used Shadow Keeper. :p)

I think I'm going to play a 2nd edited game with a completely evil, nasty party, just so I can go toe-to-toe with Drizzt and his gang. I have to admit, I was scared as hell the first time, just because I know how badass all those characters are supposed to be! (Except Regis, he's a wuss).

Personally, I think they should be higher than the highest level. After reading those books, I think that they are underrating the group (maybe so they can be beatable...) But anyway, Drizzt can take down like 6 giants at once... and with Wulfgar, they are unstoppable. By the way, the bow that Cattie Brie uses is called Taul Maril (or something like that.) If you ever read the fights Drizzt has, he barely ever gets hurt. The only time he has a chance of dying is when he fights Artemis Entreri. He should be almost unhittable in the game. I know he was for me in the first BG.

Not to mention, Draco, Gruenyvr is Drizzt's pet. It is an onix figuriine (If I remember correctly) that he can invoke for a certain amount of time. I also know much about Drizzt from people who have read the books although I haven't. I played a good party so he decided to help me, but then I went back and tried to fight him and damn did I get my ass kicked. I would have to say that if you only want Drizzt's scimitars, kill Drizzt (if possible) and do like you said before, RUN LIKE HELL.
I have an actual copy of Drizzt's stats, eqipment, etc. and it is the actual D&D NPC "Drizzt". Pretty interesting.
    STR : 13
    DEX : 20
    CON : 15
    INT : 17
    WIS : 17
    CHA : 14

    AC : -8
    THAC0 : 5
    # of attacks : 5
    Magic Resistance : 82%
    Hit Points : 92

I know his stats don't seem that great, but his items and skill in scimitars more than makes up for it. If you want any more info on his char, just ask.

WOW, apparently there are some 'hardcore' Drizzt fans. I guess due to the fact that I didn't read any of the books pertaining to him I never manifested a respect for him or his party other than: My needs = Greed + Drizzt has the items to satisfy my needs. I didn't know all of the 'family' affairs with his party but they did have an extensive dialogue regarding how I killed Drizzt and how I stole his weapons in BG1. (Which in BG1 I finally was able to develop a surefire method of accomplishing at a low level w/o cheating).

In fact the DRIZZT party was 'hungry' for my Blood but Drizzt was the only one who wanted 'resolution'. Which wasn't going to happen. I needed those weapons for my Fighter just like I needed them in BG1.

But let me update you. Let me give a name: Malchor Harpell -who the hell is he in any of the books?
Now let me 'explain'. He just appeared and is 'hunting' down Drizzt & Posse's items. -All of them. And it's a game cheat, he 'Dimension doors' in and your Drizzt related items vanish, and he then 'Dimension doors' out with everything that you have that originally belonged to DRIZZT and POSSE!! I am TICKED. I have 1/10th of a round to stop him. I can get 3 Characters to attack him at SF 0 and Imoen can cast POWER WORD SILENCE with 0 Casting time (magic robe -5 Casting time). All to no avail. Eventually he Dimensions in and Imprisons my party (Spell Imprisonment x 6)... game over... reload again...

I need to find this SOB, BG2 location that is. There is my next self assigned mission.

You WILL be sorry you killed Drizzt when you reach the War Elf city, they don't attack, but that is ALL I am going to say.

Already been thru the War Elf City. I'm near the end of the game, I just finished off Bohdi and retrieved the Elven artifact that the War Elf leader quested me to get.
    (end of Chap 6)
I just want the Blades for the last battles!! I'll do what I have to do vs any NPC (that's not a coded game cheat!!!) in order to get better Scimitar's. I'm stuck. I spent 5Pts in Scimitars and Drizzt is the only one that has a +5 one that I know of. Gotta have it.

[IMG] The Harpells are a famous wizard family, practically all of them mages of great power (but sometimes crazy as is known to happen with those types).
I can't give you more info because I just read the section about them in 2nd book of the Icewind Dale trilogy, when Drizzt & Co. visit them. Have to read some more for the full scoop. ;)

[IMG] Hehe, you know. If your good and not greedy, you can have drizzt help you attack Bodhi (sp?) and well accident happen I supose, you probly could finish him off in that fight and get his stuff without having to fight the whole pack. I don't know tho, haven't tried hehe was playing a Good party with 20 in Rep, never used the Slayer ability once through out the game, but the time you turn in a Slayer in the Asilum.. that was a bugger and he killed one of my party.. bad bad Slayer.

Thanks for the chuckle Drac., I know you have not read the dark elf books but your rendition of your battle was very well written.

This reply is in now way a "dig" at you. YOu did very considering that party fell armies in the books.

Well I just visited a website (hope the link works: http://www.wizards.com/ForgottenRealms/FR_3E_Drizzt.asp ) that gave a 'overview' on Drizzt & Company. They are 'Legendary' to the extreme. Almost to a 'sickening degree' because they should be 'Gods' the way they destroy all opposition. Not mere mortals. He may have Artemis Entreri as an enemy but I'm gonna REMEMBER the cheat code that stole my (his...) items from me in any other game I run accross him in.

Also on the website it gave a complete run down of Drizzt stats in line with 3rd Ed AD&D rules which helps me understand a 'bit' more about him.

Nevertheless I finished the game today sans the Drizzt equipment. I did 'extremely' well considering I only had a +2/+3 Weapons for my Fighter. The other 5 party members of mine are range attackers cept for Minsc who I occasionally needed to go 'toe to toe' with a monster.

I never could find Malchor Harpell or any indication were the Drizzt Items may have been taken to, otherwise.. BOY OH BOY, there would've been HELL to pay. Some NPC('s) were gonna be 'eatin it' -BIG TIME. Instead I took my wrath out on the last Dragon (the Black one) and of course 'Cheap-Skate' Jon Irenecus. Mislead master extroadinairre...

[IMG] Malchor Harpell is an odity among the Harpell family, he does not live at Ivy mansion with the rest of his kin, he is an extremly powerful wizard that lives in the tower of twilight. He has played advisor to kings and is an equal to Khelbin Blackstaff. He is the one that gave the scimitar Twinkle to Drizzt, and gave Wulfgar a valuable lesson on disiplin. Not sure where he fits in the game, but that info is from "The Halflings Gem" I own every forgotten realms book ever published, and have read them all dozens of times, I have a good deal of the R.A. Salvatore books memerized I have read them so many times, and not just the drizzt books either, I actually like the Spearweilder Tales better, but they were published by Del Rey books I believe and are not part of the tsr library. Any other questions, feel free to ask ;)

[IMG] Hi Draco, I've been followign this thread with interest because Malchor Harpell "happened" to me as well. After much searching and enquiring I have come to the conclusion that he doesn't actually have any function in the game other than to take back any goods previously belonging to Drizzt and Co. (Highway robbery I call it, I was definatly under the impression that these goodies belonged to me now). So, I don't think he can be found in the game, my guess is he is triggered for this one event by the presence of any of this gear in any character's inventory.

Yep Lazlo, it's what I concluded as well- Malchor Harpell is a game cheat! The post by Darkmoon also 'shed's some light on the relationship between him and Drizzt(and friends). I Won't even bother with Scimitar proficiency again simply because the BG2 game doesn't have any great ones cept' Drizzt's blades.

Nevertheless I finsished that game with a sour attitude and was all to eager to show it to any NPC's or Monsters I came across in the last battles of BG2. I also did something that I never do (but since I was cheated out of my Scimitar's I felt OK with..) -I used the XP cap remover. My fighter finished at 21st level. He didn't need the extra levels because he was deadly to the core at 15th level. Oh well, that's behind me now and I'm reformed. Playing a MONK this time through.

I've ordered a couple of books from the link I placed in my previous post addition here just to 'get in the know'. However, I doubt I'll be the Drizzt fan that most apparently are. For that case I'm not Elminster crazy either.

Thanks for all the feedback tho!

Bah, you think it's fun to kill him for his stuff? It's way more fun to fight side by side with him, his posse, some helpful paladins, and some opportunistic Shadow Thieves against a large number of mad vampires :)
