So it's confirmed, Kaczynski won the elections.
But still he has a trial in court :p .
And it seems that coalition between PiS and PO will not take place.

Now why would you guys go and elect someone who's going to remind Americans of the Unabomber every time we hear his name? Bad PR move. :)

Well new elections can take place if the new goverment won't get majority and it's almost 100% sure that PO and PiS coalition will not take place, as it was prooved by today's events and comments from politicians.

And now it seems that future goverment will be a minority goverment with silent support from populistic and nationalistic parties. Time to emigrate I think.

Won't happen, HB - as great as it is, I don't think "the land of the long white cloud" is Slavic enough for Svy.

Call me crazy or rude, but I can think of another nation where this is the case... unless what I've heard about the new NZ Foreign Minister is wrong.

Then again, at least you NZers and Poles aren't foolish enough to give a prat like John Howard and the Liberal/National Coalition an unchallengable majority in both houses of Parliament. I'd rather that situation than a bunch of cynical, conservative old men and party hacks running the country.

The apparent alliance of the leading party (PiS) with the somewhat nationalistic LPR (Polish Family League probably sounds better, allthough the League of Polish Families is the literal translation) and the somewhat populist Samoobrona (Self-defence) is a tactical one and forced by PO (lit. Civic Platform, called Civic Forum in English media) and its political plays. PO often seems to be the party of hungry wolves in fine suits. Those guys never fail to support big business or find common tongue with the left. I've already explained their earlier tiny little games and the current crisis is just another one but on a bigger scale. The PiS leader told them to pick a candidate for the speaker of the lower house, so they picked the guy who hates PiS and openly says there should be no coalition with them. PiS opposed that idea and told them to nominate someone else, e.g. the presidential runner-up, Donald Tusk. But no, PO had to insist on the anti-PiS and anti-coalition guy (Komorowski). PiS didn't back him and he didn't get enough vote. So what does PO say now? That PiS doesn't want and has never wanted coalition. Despite PiS leaders calling for negotiations and PO guys constantly refusing. Because PiS didn't back the PO candidate for speaker who kept saying there should be no coalition with PiS.

Lovely, lovely Platform. How those guys piss me off. It's PO who nominated the anti-coalition guy, but who has never wanted coalition? PiS. It's PO leaders who refuse to talk any further about coalition but who doesn't want to form one? PiS.

And no, I'm not a big fan of PiS or the twins (the president elect and the head of PiS are twin brothers), before anyone asks. They piss me off, too, but not as much as PO.

No, none whatsoever - it's your decision, Svy.

It's just something I'd noted by reading between the lines, is all...

News from Poland: the LPR party (Polish Family League, let's call it) is launching the initiative to change the abortion bill, removing the allowance of abortion in case of rape, in danger and probably for eugenic reasons (not mentioned but it's only logical). Other right-wing parties have no wish to change it. One influential bishop typically associated with the part of the church that somewhat supported the teaching of John Paul II said the church agreed to the current bill for the sake of social peace and it shouldn't be changed. The League therefore has asked the primate for the official stance of the church and is going to ask Benedict XVI and the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith in Vatican, to confront said bishop. I still wonder how come a pro-JP2 bishop could support the idea of abortion in case of rape... I don't even know if he supports it or just doesn't want to undermine the relative peace in the society, but doctrinally, his stance doesn't hold. Hmmm hmm... wonder what comes out of this.

It's not the Slavs that are the problem, it's that jolly attitude of yours.

Yours as in "me" or "Slavic"? Anyway, what this has to do with me wanting to live amongst Slavs is beyound me...

    Chevalier,

I heard there was a scandal with LPR. Something like a tape in which members from Młodzież Wszechpolska recorded of themselves in the office of LPR chiefs, wherein they were totally drunk, simulating homosexual sex and saying a bunch of BS.
