While any talk about the impeachment of George II may be a bit too much, atm, there appears to be an awful lot of people close to him who are getting some close scrutiny. This is the first I have seen regarding a timetable for the grand jury:

The interesting part is we're barely a year into term number two. If stuff like this is coming out NOW, and this looks like the beginnings of a bit of an avalanche, I wonder what else we'll have in store in the next few months and years. Who knows what more is going to be revealed when more and more senior officials are willing to spill their guts about the administration's shady dealings in order to keep themselves out of jail. For now, I'm just sitting back with a bowl of popcorn to see what happens.

Now it's time to cue the usual suspects to post a National Review editorial dismissing all of this as a partisan Dem fishing expedition...

Sorry to disappoint Death Rabbit, but I imagine Dick Cheney can plausibly deny he is even in fact the Vice-President. Hmm, what is the name of Little Bush's terrier...?

 

Heh, and you only mentioned people involved in the Plame case. There are several other out there, like

- the Safavian case (the top federal procurement official - buddy of Rove, too- arrested for lying about his dealings with Abramoff)
- nominee for deputy attorney general (second job in the Justica Department) also withdraw, due to connections to Abramoff
- head of FDA resigned after two months on the job, due to conflict of interests (apparently, he had investments in the industry he was supposed to oversee) but this is so small by now, it does not even make front page
- Frist' problems - the SEC has supoenated his records concerning sales of stock before the price going down (let's not even talk about his stock holdings being in a blind trust which was not so blind after all). This is the stuff Martha Stewart went to prison for
- DeLay's problems - enough said

 

Yeah, it's all coming home to roost. If half of them are half as guilty as they appear, this is going to be a major hit for the Republican party.

 

So, how about Cheney being identified as the source for Libby?

Of course, Fitzgerald has had those notes for two years now and Libby turned over those notes himself, so I have a hard time looking at this as anything new.

It is looking more and more to me like no crime was committed because Mrs. Wilson was -- while still classified as a covert ageny by the CIA -- not covered by the relevant law.

I am really wondering what Fitzgerald is going for here. THe only thing I can think of is perjury, but others think he is actually going to indict people in the CIA for making false statements and leaking classified information. I find that surprising, but then Ken Starr did not exactly start out investigating Monica Lewinsky.

 

Whaaat? It might have not been news for the prosecutor, but is definitely news for the public. Or you want to say that the fact that Libby got info on Plame from Cheney was public knowledge? As I remember, his 'public' statements seem to throw the blame on reporters.

Trying to shift the blame on CIA is disingenuous, at best. Apparently Cheney found about Plame from Tenet. Cheney and Libby were in the right to know (presumaby they have enough clearance), so Tenet did not commit any crime; but spreading the news to the press...

And the bet is that the indictments will be based on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. If it was good enough for Clinton...
