Whats the point of picking up gems? Do you just sell them?

most yes but some are other purposes I'd suggjest keeping a star saphire,2 rouge stones, diamond, emerald, and a kings tear(if you plan to play the expansion)and a rouges stone to open this one door to a lich in shadows of amn and....i beleive there was one more stone you needed in SoA it might have beena kigns tear i dunno.....

Most gems are simply to sell, although a few are used for other purposes. In somes games I've played, you would convert your gold into gems, but not in this game it seems.

    Hold onto these:

Diamond -> Used to upgrade the Horn of Valhalla

Rouge Stone -> Used to get into the Twisted Rune

Beljuril -> Used to Upgrade the Horn of Valhalla

No, they are not all just for sale them.

The rouge stone gem opens a door in bridge distirct.

The diamond upgrade's the silver horn of valhalla to bronze horn of valhalla and
beljuril upgrade's the bronze horn of valhalla to iron horn of valhalla.

All others are just for sale i think.

    edit,
dammit im late for 3 min ;)

Why you would want to change your name?

I got "Lord Slayer" just because it sounds better...

    Usually, i got just "Slayer".

[IMG] They as mentioned above can have their purposes, but they can also help rake in the dough. Especially when you get like 40 of some kind all at once. :) Buy yourself some goodies, don't walk around with too much extra cash. (No Ribald didn't pay me to say that...)

LS, you just want to change your name so you can wipe away your "Lord Sarevok" reputation :p. How about Sir Spamicus ;).

Because of you dear sir, because of you...

I think one LS is enough for these boards don't you?

[IMG] You can get ioun (sp) stones which look similar to some of the gems. Some of them heal. I think there is also a ring of regeneration and rings count as gems. hope that helped.

Don't forget you sometimes need some gems for some riddles.
And you remember that stupid pommel gem? ;) there are more items then horns to upgrade with gems.
Some may be used as a wardstone, others as a killer-item, like the sunlight-gem.
That's all I can think of right now, but there are probably some more purposes for gems.
btw: I really love that gembag!

If a gem has a 'special description', don't sell it or discard it. These gems are quest items, and very useful.

Spoiler Examples: Shadow Dragon Wardstone, Sun Gem, Light Gem.

Also Ioun Stones are neat. Keep them too.

Have to admit, I kinda liked the Diablo way of upgrading gems to better gems, and then upgrading weapons with 'em.

[IMG] How do you use the gems to upgrade the horn of Valhalla? I took them to Cromwell ,and he didn't do anything.

There's guy in Waukeen's Promenade who'll do it. Not Cromwell.

The reason for gems originally in D&D, was to carry large values of cash without lugging around huge belt-pouches bulging with gold that could weigh 30 pounds.
Now gems take up inventory (even crammed into the bag) whilst gold has its own infinitely large yet lightweight compartment. It may be a small difference but is something that just feels unbalancing.
