I'm using a pure human fighter who is dual weilding axes. I'm hogging any and all proficiency points to Axes and Two Fisted Fighting. (4 in axes so far, 3 in dual weild!)

Question is...what axes should I be on the lookout for? Do the bonus merchants sell any worthwhile axes? I'm only interested in Melee weapons at the time.

Also, are there any other axe types besides the Battle Axe and the Throwing Axe? Could there be a larger "War Axe" or somesuch?

    Thanks.

Since there are quite a lot of undeads in BG2:SoA, I suggest you buy the AzureEdge.
Frostreaver +3 and Stonefire +3 are nice too.
Hangard's Axe and Rifthome Axe are the ones which return to your hand after you throw it to your opponent. Axe of Hrothgar +3 can be bought in the Copper Coronet (Joluv) and gives +1 to Charisma and Wisdom.

There are no other types of axes then the battle and throwing axe.
I'd like to see a twohanded axe, like Gimli's, it would be faster then a halberd and slashing only, except for slashing and piercing, like the halberd...:)

The Post info sais This post is four minutes earlier then Big_B's, I think it's rather 4 seconds...:p @ Big B.....;)

[IMG] When it comes to axes, Azuredge is the bomb. It is both melee and throwing. And you can get it from Bernard in the Copper Coronet quite early. Also keep an eye out for Stonefire, Frostreaver, and Rifthome. There are just throwing axes, melee axes, or combos of both, no other distinctions.

Doh Master of Nuhn is a bit quicker :p.

[IMG] Azure Edge is seriously bugged. It doesn't do half of what it's supposed to do, and what it does, it doesn't do like it should in its description. There's an unofficial patch for it though: http://members.home.net/mrkevvy/SoAfix/FixedBG2Azuredge.zip

    Bugs with it:

    1) The item is supposed to destroy undead creatures if they fail a Save Vs. Death, and it didn't for most undead creatures. This was occuring because this ability was defined as the wrong type for undeads; most are immune to it.

    2) The Save Vs. Death was supposed to be at a -4 penalty, but there was no penalty.

    3) The item did far too much damage against all creatures when thrown, as its throwing damage was set as 3d6 instead of 1d6 as it should have been.

    4) The item was supposed to do an extra 4 points of damage to undead that made their saving throws, and it didn't.

    5) The item's icons to choose between melee or throwing ability were the same, making it difficult to choose.

i had all axes+3 stonefire, frostreaver, azuredge, and all the rest so i had sone fire and frostreaver dual weilded, and had azuredge as a quick switch for stonefire when i fought bohdi
    AXES ROCK
they should have made more better ones in ToB

  6. Taluntain, all weapons that are capable of being used in melee and throwable have the same icon when you right-click on the weapon icon, so the Azuredge isn't really 'bugged in aspect'.

As for any good axes, well, just about everyone already stated them.

creudzfeldt-jakob, Tal posted the whole fix description. The choosing icons are only decorative fix. What matters here is that Azuredge is totally screwed in original SoA files and it is not so powerfull as it should be.

Reread the fix description Tal posted and do apply that fix.

For other unofficial SoA items fixes and whether to apply those or not, I advise you to read my old review on those here: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003110.html

I like Axes because many of them add elemental damage, great because it goes through stoneskins.

  10. Another advantage of Axes is that several good ones can be obtained quite easily early on in the game. A battle axe +1 is owned by Korgan, and a battle axe +2 is in the Graveyard district. Just fight a few mummies and shadows.

Good point creudzfeldt-jakob. Axes are as readily found as Long Swords.

You can buy Stonefire and Azuredge, which do require a little gold but are well worth it. They are both +3 Axes.

I also think you can find Frostreaver, yet another +3 Axe (w/ cold damage IIRC), in de'Arnise Hold, which isn't hard to clear out at all.

The problem is that they made them so small, I guess to fit with Dwarves, but I'd like to see a huge great axe...

    [IMG] Sarevok,
just take a halberd :D it looks axe-like, it's large enough for your purposes I bet ... so who would complain about piercing damage then? :D

The problem that I am continually coming across is with Azuredge.

Question: If a weapon can be used as either throwing or melee, and you choose to use it as a melee weapon...why can't you dual weild it with another axe?

Maybe I am missing something here....

I have Frostreaver, and love it. My pure fighter is already getting 5/2 attacks due to Grandmastery, and in a few levels he will add that all important third proficiency slot to dual weilding.

I forgot who it was that said Fighters were an excellent choice for first timers, (probably everyone!) but I have to totally agree with them!

Extremist you wouldn't happen to have all the 'safe' items in a zip file together would you? I would really appreciate it if I could get a copy then

  16. Lord Sarevok Guest

I don't think you can dual wield throwing axes. At least I couldn't dual wield Firetooth +3(a dagger).

Stresed, no I don't have it since I actually NEVER applied anything from that patch in my game. Sorry.

To see what is it all about there, I used WinZip to extract that full "fix" collection to a folder of my own, then experimented with each item (all items you want to apply should be copied to OVERRIDE folder and items are in fact files with .ITM extension).

Anyway, DON'T use selfextracting sequence from that fix pack!

Do install WinZip then right-click on the "fix".exe file, then choose option "extract to...". It will then be extracted to some place you choose that is not OVERRIDE folder and then you'll be able to copy to OVERRIDE anything you actually want to apply.

Lol, you advise others to install them but don't install them yourself?

It's a damn shame you don't have them ready, but thanks for the advice anyways. I'll be looking into it

[edit:] Next question: Where do I get the fixes? The link Tal gave is not working (at the moment)
