I agree with that article completely. But then, even though Italy suck at them, I've never been against Penalties after the extra 30 minutes. I support them, as if the teams won't be able to score for two hours against eachother, that is the only way to decide it.

EDIT: Just read on BBC; Torsten Frings is suspended for him hitting an Argentinian in the face with a punch after the game. Italy will probably win the midfield now.

Typical Italian move i must say, getting involved into something that's completely none of their business. Are they afraid to face Germany at full strength ? This move is just as sickening as all those whining players that are begging the ref for a yellow card. What's wrong with this sport lately ?

The Italians of all people should know better than to point their accusing fingers towards someone else.

Actually, it is their business, as they are very much affected by the outcome. Two teams are directly affected by it, Germany and Italy, and two teams are indirectly affected of it, Portugal and France.

Imagine if in 2004, they wouldn't had investigated Totti's spitting, then the Swedish media contacted UEFA to check it further while showing an image of him doing the spitting, then I do not think that Sweden would get the flack that Italy does today.

People, please, cut Italy SOME slack. They are no worse than most others, and actually better than many.

I agree with that article. Similar stories have been published here. I repeat what I said originally, that missing a penalty kick when you're a professional soccer player is a shocker. It should be a rare thing.

Anyway, I'm going to have pick some odd-ball results if I'm going to have a chance of winning the office pool. No point picking the same results as the leaders.

    How about:

    Germany 0 - Italy 0
    Portugal 0 - France 0

If the Germans win, then Franz Beckenbauer will ascend. to goodhod, or at least patron god of Bavaria. For everytime he shows up, the Germans become worldchampion.

Now that Brazil is gone, I favour France. The Italians must not win. It would make my sleep uneasy because of all the noise and I couldn't stand the prolonged state of euphoria an Italian championship would bring.

Say what?? Like the Italians have anything to do with this. Frings will be replaced, it's still 11 vs 11

Apparently many of the athletes on the documents from the Spanish blood-doping clinic - the list that's decimated this year's Tour - are participating in the World Cup. It'll be interesting to see what comes out once the winners has been determined.

Sadly football like many other teamsports arent all that interested in looking too hard for doping. It is banned but in practice it is more of a hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil. Nothing will come of it. A few players have been suspended during the last few years and that have all been for quite severe doping and only for short periods.

In what way ? Being corrupt ? You're right about that one as we're obviously whitnessing these days. The Seria A will most likely start without Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan this season. That league is rotten to the core, and it's not the first time they are caught redhanded.

Or perhaps being the world's biggest crybabies when they are eliminated from a tournament ? You're right on the spot there as well, remember how they reacted towards Ahn when he scored the goal that eliminated Italy 4 years ago ? "He is no longer welcome here, because he had the nerves to score against us" were the exact words of his club's president. When Italy is eliminated, it's always the ref, the hostile crowd, the organisation, the pitch, you name it...it's everyone's fault but never their own. Watching them scream rape and murder after they've gone out, is like watching a very bad soap opera...amusing and annoying at the same time.

Erm yes...don't you read the newspapers or follow news on TV ? The Italians have brought this to FIFA's attention, and they had already closed the case. If it wasn't for those sportsmanlike Italians, Frings would be playing, now he's suspended. It still might be 11 against 11, but Frings was an important player on Germany's midfield, ask Riquelme from Argentina. I'd definitely like to see the Italian's reaction if someone from another nation framed Totti like this, the world would not be big enough, rest asured.

At least they are doing SOMETHING to fix it. After all, are they not to be going before a trial? If it were that corrupt, they would not care about it, and just let it go on.

At least they don't start huge fights when they are loosing/about to loose.
EDIT: Or use drugs and then manage to weasel themself out of their punishment.

Yes, it's disgusting, but I don't think that the entire Italian football organization should be blamed for something the Perugians did.

I thought they took 2004 pretty well, as well as 2000 and 1998, not to mention 1996, 1994, and 1990. For the last sixteen years, I can count one instance. 2002.
They were pissed off after 2002, but I understand them. The referees WERE obviously scewed against them in the tournament, starting with the Croatian game and ending with the South Korean team that had the referees with them so much it hurt my brain to just think about it.

Italy is not in New Zealand's good books at the moment, after the insensitivity of their Fiat ads that use our haka. So "Go Germany" even more!

Italy... I would not have minded for our team to loose against them. Semifinal would have been enough of a triumph by itself.
But now, after the bullcaca with Frings, I hope those unctuous Azuris get crushed today. And failing that... at least get hammered hard enough to break some skull. :smash:

    Figure of speaking. Or not.

i am cheering for ref today. looking forward for 2 red cards and a bunch of yellows. if the match can be won by default, i.e. one team has not enough players to continue, even better.

We will end the noodle suckers adventure in this wc even without frings.

Not only because it is basicly a MUST after this nice display of fairnis, no, but because our replacements are just as good as frings.

So, Germany vs France Finals plz.

shoulders teekc. I think fifa should continue it's path and develop refs as part of the football entertainment experience.

my idea is adding a whole new set of cards to the ref's arsenal:

orange card: player is sent off, almost (one leg on the pitch, one leg over the sidelines).

blue card: just a sign of appreciation for a very nice dive (in honor of italia, natch).

green card: for when beckham vomits on the pitch.

rainbow card: when you want to flash a card, but can't figure which one (the graham poll special).

white card: please don't hurt me; go ahead do what you want.

the possibilites for the game are endless...

Whoa, very little love for Italy on the boards I see :/

But I'm still rooting for them as my other 2 favored teams (Nederlands and Argentina) are already gone. Hope it's a decisive win though, not like that penalty against Australia.

btw, for the Aussies out there: are they selling copies of Tim Cahill's jersey? And if so, how much is it going for? My parents are going to Australia in a week and that's what I'd like them to get me.
