[IMG] I have shapeshifted and cannot get back to my normal form. This is strange - I have done it several times before, but this time my mage character (after using a polymorph spell) is locked in as an ogre and cannot return.

Problem is I do not have a saved game. I thought it would wear off in time. So I played on for several days.

I think the shapeshifting problem is related to the use of a necklace of "form stability" - if I remember the name properly. Maybe this has locked me in the Ogre form? I gave it to one of the others in my group (even dropped it for a while) but I am still stuck.

This is a weak idea but when you're desperate....

Can someone on the party cast displel magic on you or can you get a temple to remove curse, heal, etc, or (but I expect you have tried this) try shapsshifting again (into an animal) in the hope that you might return to normal next time. Sorry can't help more

    Maybe shadowkeeper can do domething

If I could shapeshift to something else, I would. But the whole shapeshifting "menu" is not available.

I will try your other ideas. Also, if I can find the agressive form of the polymorph spell (the one you cast on others) then that may unblock me and let me back to my normal form. Anyone know where that spell can be found?

That sounds risky - an ogre's better than a squirrel. But I think i get the idea - ignore me, I know a lot less than the other guys here.

Another thought occurs here MAJOR SPOILER

have you finished at Spellhold - if not read no further.

After Iranicus steals your sole you loose all of your innate powers (but gain a new one a bit later). If this has happened to you while shifted you wouldn't be able to access those innate shapeshifting powers any more. But you can use Shadowkeeper (checkout the donwloads in the BG2 Editor section) to reequip the inate shapeshift ability. Hope this or something helps. i know how annoying a bugged game is (still playing my save/load bugged game).

EDITED - OK so it's your 'SOUL' that Iranicus steals not your 'sole'. This has ruined the game for me though. I found Iranicus much more scary as some kind of all powerful evil Cobbler.

So I avoid reading Slappy's post. Pity!

Hey Silverbird, thinking about it some more, I think my spoiler was probably inappropriate anyway (I assumed you had a shapeshifting ability but I think you changed using a normal spell). However, the idea I suggested still might work and it isn't a spoiler. What you could try is using Shadowkeeper to give your character an innate shapeshifting ability, use this to change back to a human then load Shadowkeeper to remove the shapeshifting ability. If all goes well you'll have the game and you character back to normal.

You can get Shadowkeeper from the editors section of this BG2 site.

Use it to load your latest game, make sure your character portrait is showing, select the 'Innate' tab, choose add spell, select the 'Shapeshift Natural Form', save the changed file (using a different name to be safe), cross your fingers, load it and see if you can now use a natural ability to chnage back to normal. Good luck.

    Wow!

Shadowkeeper it is. But it sounds like weekend work.

(About the innate shapchange ability, no I do not have this, I just shapechanged with the polymorph spell)

    Thanks

Easier way to do it w/SK change your appearance to normal under the characteristics tab, way easier.

He, I noticed, to come back to the original post, that if you use a limited wish spell and then choose for change in everything you want, you are able to change in a greaterwerewolf, a irongolem, a giant troll etc. But the Djinni says that it lasts only for a time, so be aware! Maybe you used this and you didn't return to normal on time.

[IMG] OK - I followed Slappy's advice, got shadowkeeper (very dangerous tool for purists like me) - started it up and found Resource 0 was set to PLYOGRE, meaning Polymorph into ORGE. So I just set that to null.

When I restarted, all seemed OK, except that I could not talk. Remember, when shapeshifted, you cannot talk. So I polymorphed to a bear, then changed to natural form, and all is OK again.

I still do not know how this happened, but I guess it is a bug (in Microsoft language, a feature) that comes if you have polymorphed into something, and then put on the necklace of form stability.

    Thanks Slappy

Sacrifice your ogre-shifted character: let him be killed, (not gibbed, his grey portrait must remain with your party) then ressurrect him... Maybe he will apperar in his normal shape...

I know this post has sort of finished but it needs a 'Health Warning' on kasio's idea. Yep that approach might work and its always good to see people volunteering ideas to help overcome problems. However, in this case we are talking about the main character. So: NEVER LET YOUR MAIN CHARACTER DIE THINKING YOU CAN RESSURECT THEM. Main charcater dead, end of game, reload. Sorry.
