Oh yes, it's very good but not without a dumb puzzle or two. Still it's a good buy.

I have Silent Hill 2 on the PS2.

"In my restless dreams, I see that town, Silent Hill. You promised you'd take me there again someday, but you never did..."

The best horror game to date, easily. The atmosphere and soundtrack in this game is just amazing. This is the only game that has actually managed to scare me sh**less. I can't wait for SH3 on the PS2.

I've played the PS2 version as well, and aside from some possible graphic upgrades, it shouldn't be that much different. Here's my $.02:

I hated this game. I never managed to finish it because it was just too tedious. It became a chore.

See, I played Resident Evil, and it was amazing for it's time. Then I played RE2, Silent Hill 1, Dino Crisis, and they were all pretty much the same thing. Run through room after room of scary enemies, find the objects and use them to solve strange puzzles. Basically, I got real bored real fast with the "survival horror" games. They are all the same, down to the "broken medallion" puzzles and the herbs you use to restore health. There's always at least a couple "nasty critter jumping through a window/door/ceiling" scenes. Controls and weapons are almost identical in all the games.

The main problem I had with SH2 is the insane amount of tedious backtracking you have to do. You basically wander around outside until you get to a hospital, school, police station or whatever. You then spend hours running back and forth between different rooms, looking for the next puzzle piece or the place you have to use it. The building layouts are usually very simple, but not all of the rooms are open at once. Hence all the backtracking. Once you find an object, you might have to go wander around the entire building looking for the place to use it. Same deal with keys. They at least show locked doors on the maps, but you usually wind up trying it in 7 or 8 locked doors before you find what it opens.

The story is pretty out there too. It's not like you can suffer through this mediocre game because it has a great story and compelling characters or anything. It's not quite as campy as Resident Evil, but it's close.

If you MUST get this game, get a strategy guide for it, this will save you much frustration. It's not that it's hard, but the backtracking you have to do becomes very tedious and boring after a while, and a strategy guide will tell you exactly where to go next, and avoid some of this. Better yet, use your money to buy one of these fine games http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/index.php (Waitaminute, what is POR doing on that list?!??!!)

Well it's hard to argue with such a well explained opinion of the game Nutrimat, I take my hat off to you. However, I did not feel this while I was playing the game. I found that it kept me constantly on my toes, thinking hard of where to go next, or whether or not to heade downthat pitch dark corridor... Yes there are huge amounts of backtracking. But that's the whole point in the SH games. You're supposed to be a pathetic character who's helplessly following clues all over the town, back and forth.

Yep. That's exactly how I felt.

Like I said, if this was the first "survival horror" game I'd played, it wouldn't have bothered me that much. But every one of them was exactly the same, and by SH2 I was bored out of my mind.
