[IMG] For me - and this will date me - it was Ninja Gaiden for the original 8-bit Nintendo. That game absolutely kicked my ass in the later stages. Frustrating as hell. :bang:

    How about you?

Pong. Always lost my focus from the constant back and forth motion.

The legend of Zelda for the 8-bit nintendo. I never understood the hints for the repeating areas.

    Man, what was it called.
    It´s for NES aswell.
Dragon Lance maybe. Something with Dragon.

You started right outside a fallbridge that was broken and there was a dragon in the moat. You were supposed to kill the dragon to enter. But how you were supposed to kill it while evading the bats and the dragons attacks were something I never figured out. So I was never able to enter the castle. This have to be the hardest game ever as I never survived longer than 1 minute. And that was if I waited for 50 seconds before trying to take on the dragon :)

Curse of the Azure Bonds, an old Forgotten realms D&D RPG.

The level up restriction was based on class, not by net experience gained. It was around a level 10 cleric, level 14 thief, and everything else in between. I remember having 6 humans, ALL dual classed from a fighter/paladin/ranger to one thief, two clerics, three mages - all dualled at the last level possible to get the most benefits from both classes. So this is essentially one of the most powerful parties one could create in that game.

That said, I got wasted at the last part of the game. The shambling mounds and Bit o' Moander ate me for lunch. After much retrying, I did manage to beat the game (once) with this uber-party. With any regular party, you're toast halfway through the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - brilliant game, all the more so because it was über hard. When finishing it there was asense of emptyness, of a horrendous challenge being fullfilled.

I don't see how OoT was so difficult... challanging puzzles but difficulty wise I didn't have much trouble.

I've never played super metroid on the NES but I hear it's probably the closest thing to an impossible game in a long time.

Super Ghosts'n'Goblins by far -I had to quick-save/load at least a hundred times before I even reached the end of the first level. Can't imagine how the original SNES-gamers made it...

Breath of Fire 2 was pretty hard too, if not as ridicilously.

I played Myst when I was about 10ish. I got to the second island, then back to the first. (I had to cheat for the piano thing.)

If I played it now, it would probably be really easy, but I was 10 so it was hard.

    Challenging puzzles = difficult

To someone who has played OoT, if you want to say that something was über megerly hard, you say: 'That was as hard as The Water Temple.'

Anyone play a game called G-Police? It's a "cop flying around shooting badguys in helicopter sshaped spaceship thingy" type of game. The game is fun until you reach mission 5 or 6 out of around thirty, and realize the nonexistent difficulty slider seems to be permanently stuck to "impossible". There is a 'god-mode' cheat, naturally, but if you use it, you get the message 'Cheat used' at the end of the mission, and you don't get to continue. Fun, eh? Yeah, right... (Way to go, Psygnosis)

Played G-Police. The really hard parts were those escort missions. The rest was surely not easy, but feasable.

Speaking of escort duty, I found the last missions in Freespace II to be hard as hell.
