When is the new handheld from nintendo coming out? I can't remember the name but it's got two screens (one of which is touch) and they showed it at E3. I don't know when it will be released yet. So possibly before xmas - though I expect you meant the larger consoles rather than handhelds.

There are a couple of new hand-held things coming out relatively soon, but for the next generation of consoles, I expect you'll most likely have to wait till about 2006/2007.

IIRC - Nintendo Dual Screen isn't that far away from release. However, I probably don't remember correctly...

    Well, not so much consoles.

There's the Alienware PCI-E bridge system that's due out in early August. Two of ANY flavor PCI-E graphics cards, working in parallel. Two Ti4200's or two 6800/X800's. Coupled with two processors (Xeon's) and an 800W psu. Pulls down some fairly decent scores, or so I hear.

There's the new Nvidia solution, which is reminescent of 3dfx's "SLI" Voodoo2 interface. You can bridge two 6800's across two PCI-E slots, and yank down some decent scores. It's due out in mid-July, I believe. But like the Alienware solution, the only mainboard that has two 16x PCI-E slots is a Xeon workstation board, priced around $400US. Still much less (total system-wise) than the $7000+ that Alienware wants, but certainly not below $3500.

I know the Alienware "solution" uses the full power of both cpus to power the graphics cards, so you get something like a 60% boost in framerates. I'm not sure if the Nvidia "solution" uses both cpus or not, so you might see much less (30%) boost in framerates, depending on your processor and the resolution you're running at.

Both merit some attention, even if it's along the lines of an Xbox emulator...

The next of the consoles will most likely be X-box 2 which is predicted to come out in around two years. The playstation 2 however, is announced to stay for another five years at least before a third is released.
