As most of the players know, it is possible to buy plugins like the horse armor. My first reation was buy? WTF buy. But I can see some reason behind it.

But it left a sour taste in my mouth when I found more plugins that have a price tag. Is this how it is going to be? How big must a plugin be to justify buying?

Big enough to offer a remarkable improvement in experience, be it in graphics, sounds, mechanics, or story.

A good extension has these all.

The first two aren't really justified. But still it's only $2. I found more than that once rummaging down the back of my sofa.

The latter two are much better, particularly the latest one. I get a lot of use out of it. The quality seems to be getting better with each one, and there are at least going to be 7 of them (Thieves Den was marked DCL7; perhaps it was one they started later but finished earlier).

That's how it starts, but those $2 a time add up. If this is the way of the future, releasing unfinished games, and then charging for the rest of it, then this industry is something that I no longer wish to be part of.

They're not going to see one penny from me. I've paid in full for the game, which apparently wasn't even finished. And now they wan't to make up for it by offering me pieces of the puzzle for 2$ a piece ?

    No way Jose.

IMO its a Bethesda version of NWN Premium Modules...you're obviously going to have to pick and choose depending on whether you get value for money...

Obviously, I don't think the Horse Armor mod was worth it...but a lot of people DID buy it...*shrugs*

I don't see a problem with this kind of digital content distribution. There are plenty of opinions out there on whether the content is worth it or not, and everyone can make their own decision whether to buy it or not. Giving people more choice is never a bad thing.

I have bought some mods from NWN, and was mildly satisfied. Quite a few free fan made ones were better. In comparisson with the price you pay for the whole game it is to small. Make a third expansion with the best free mods and the premium modules in one pack for $10 and give the possiblility to order a disk version for say $13 and all is perfect. The small amounts add up to a higher number.

The same goes with oblivion. In due time free mods will be made and played. Expansions will also be made.

Aye...at the moment, most of Oblivion's mods are game tweaks to fix the million problems with the vanilla game such as leveling system issues, UI issues, graphics problems, quest bugs etc etc etc...

As time goes on and the game becomes properly playable by the majority the way THEY want to...I suspect we will see a lot more in the way of quests, additional content etc coming out for Oblivion...

As of now, I have retired both my lvl 30+ characters since I feel honestly that there isn't much left to do in Oblivion for me...(playing the game for 18 hours a day for a month straight can do that...) and I'm exploring the joys of NWN and KOTOR... (again!) :)

If this content is never going to be available anywhere else, ever, EG on a proper expansion pack like tribunal or bloodmoon were, then I've no problem with it. But if it appears on an add on pack in say, 6mths I'm going to be spitting blood.

I'd be a little unhappy if it doesn't.

I'm not buying these plugins as little extras to the game don't make a lot of difference to me, and aren't enough to encourage another play through. So I'd be happy to dowload free ones (either fan ones or free official ones).

However, were a large collection of them to be realeased at once as part of an expansion, that could quite easily persuade me to part with some cash.
