i was wondering how people get their fighter/mages to have a good armor class without stping them from casting spells

 

A high dex, and the Robe of Vecna.

 

Bracers of Defense.

Ring Of Protection

 

Elven chain would work as well.....

 

I also go with 18 dex and Robe of Vecna.
Although, I use the "No wear limitations" mod so...
Only being able to wear one magic item is just lame. Anyhow, Stoneskin is a lifesaver.

 

Having a few points in single weapon style is always useful and high dex.

 

With Stoneskin, Blur and Mirror Image to name but a few spells I don't generally worry about AC.

 

With high dex and good bracers your AC should be pretty low anyway. Add buffing spells, and you're set.

 

try the armor-spell-proficiency combo. At least 18 DEX two slots on single weapon proficiency-that lowers your base AC to 4,Robe of Vecna-Base AC 5, +4 to spellcasting time-or bracers of AC 3, blur, stoneskin, mirror image spells...you can lower your AC to -4 or -5 without much difficulty. Personally, I think that a Mage-warrior's place is in the second line, acting as support for frontline fighters and protecting weaker characters, keeping himself out of immediate reach.

 

well tronak the only problem i see with having a fighter/mage as the second linemen, sorry if that sounds too much like football, is that i only make a f/m if i want to solo the game, so second line, unless i summon before every fight, is kind of hard if not impossible to do.

 

Triggers, sequencers and chain contiengecys are your best friends

Yes, elven chain allows spellcasting.
Robe of Vecna can be bought in the Adventurers Mart, not from Ribald though, if you have the bonus merchants.
