Robert Jordan succumbed to his illnes at september 16. Rest in peace.

Wow, I had forgotten that he was sick.

Anyone have any guesses on what they are going to do with his series? I'm guessing they will find someone to wrap it up with a final book.

 

I was just checking up on his state a few days ago and then the rumours about him laying for death were denied by Wilson ...

It is a sad feeling to know that a series of books that for a long time meant a lot to me will never be finished. A story that during many years of my life was a big part of me will never get a real conclusion.

I guess I am a selfish person but I did not know him as a person, only as a writer but as a writer he meant a lot to me and all I feel is my own loss of a story never finished.

 

A few days ago he said he had taken out his notes and passed them on to his wife and his publisher so that if, in his own words, "the worst actually happens" they could end the book the way he wanted it to.

This is sad news, but unfortunately not entirely unexpected. Jordan himself said a couple of years ago that he did not have much time left. I do believe he will live on in the series he created, and I hope his publisher can finish the last book in a way that does justice to his vision.

 

RIP, RJ, RIP. I've enjoyed the WoT series, and I'm looking froward to reading the last book.

My sincerest sympathies to his family. He will always be remembered by his fans as not only a great author, but also a strong and warm person.

 

Its a sad day indeed and may RJ rest in peace. Looks like Wheel of Time will never have a conclusion.

This depresses the heck out of me. He was not a "literary" writer, but he was a helluva good one and his books gave me a great deal of reading satisfaction. I think that his publisher and his wife / family will likely come up with something to end the series. If so, I hope they do it in one book.

 

I think many of us more or less quit the series a long tmie ago, the last three books I have only gotten and read due to purely nostalgic reasons and the hope that there would be a light at the end of the tunnel. Now the tunnel caved in. Considering that he had worked out hte ending from the get go I am going to get the tripe that will be published in his name for the simple reason that I still care enough about the characters that I want to know what happens.

 

Aaaaand Brandon Sanderson will be writing the 12th book. Meh.

He is a very good writer in my opinion, I like both of the books I have read by him very much. I haven't read the WoT series, but from what I have heard of them, it doesn't seem to me that Sanderson is the same style of writing. But who knows?

Elantris is one of my favorite books, I would say 9.5/10
Mistborn is great too... 8/10

 

I admit to being shocked that they picked Sanderson. I think he will do a fine job as I also have been impressed with Mistborn and I'm currently enjoying Elantris. Here's to hoping he can do a good job and give us loyal readers a conclusion.

 

Hmm. Sanderson. Also a Tor author, a fair writer. Somewhat similar style, less the wordiness.

I really hope that he will wrap things up, open no more new plotlines and just basicly get on whit it. It should have been over by now. But still, I just raced trough the first 5 then the pace went down. book 10 gave me a nevermindfeeling. I am not going to read any more until it is finished. If not, forget it.

 

I think it was the same with me, raced through the first few books (more action, exciting stuff happening, well, SOMETHING happening anyway), then got bored around book 6 or so, what with Robert Jordan managing to devote entire chapters to the squabbling of various female characters.

I won't re-read the entire series until Sanderson completes the last book, and only then if people say that yes, there is a definite ending, and it's pretty good, then I might start from Book 1 again.
