Which weapons are effective against greater mummies? Have tried the drinker sword, lilacor sword, mace of disruption (from Bhodi's lair)

What are some strategies for dealing with these things?

At a guess they must be un-dead, so anything with bonuses there should help.

I also seem to remember that fire is particularly useful.....

Dealings with the Undead you say? Well, first off, we've got the Undead Hunter Paladin kit, slices and dices through lifeless meat at the speed of which ale goes down my throat :)

Then there's Daystar, a nice longsword. Also very effective at blasting away the corpses.

Turning Undead with a cleric is a good way to either destroy them or take control of them. (Hey, if you can't tell people what to do, what good are they? :p ) Iirc, Undeadhunters can turn undead as well right?

Anything blunt works very well too. (CromFaeyr comes to mind, for extra splatterbonus :) )

There a scrolls of protection from undead, which can help you. That's all off the top of my head.

Try to backstab the mummies. At higher level you can kill them easily this way, and because they are very slow you can use the backstab, run and hide tactic. Celestial Fury is ideal... Maybe your opponent won't die immediately, but never forget you are faster, and you have ranged weapon too...i hope you have :)

I have tried backstabbing them. Every weapon I have tried on them when I hit it says weapon ineffective and does no damage. I can do damge to regular mummies although it seems i only do half damage, But I haven't found anything besides spells that will actually damge the greater mummies

You just need enough plusses. +4 or +5 should do the trick. Failing that, just use high level magic. (Melf's Minor Meteors and cleric stuff works well.)

I agree, fire is excellent vs Mummies - I just fought a few in the unseeing eye quest with two well placed fireballs ... I protected my two frontliners vs. fire and send them in to melee the mummies (good AC is necessary to prevent desease - it's a touch attack). I used +2 and +3 weapons and iirc they worked well (the fight was very short, so I didn't notice wether the weapons worked or not ;) ).

IMO the major pronblem with mummies iirc is their resistance to damage rather than their immunity to a certain grade of enchantment. The use of fire effectively avoids this problem.

IIRC, only +3 weapons above are effective vs. Greater Mummies. Note that Flame Tongue, which is supposed to be +4 against undead, and other weapons that function as +X vs. something, do not become of a higher magical enchantment. Thus, Flame Tongue can't hit Greater Mummies, Greater Vampires (those with names, I think), etc.

My favourite trick against those unholy SOB's is blast them with spells, and then as they get closer, hack 'em to bits with Lilarcor, Azuredge (Is Azuredge +3?) and some other weapons (I don't remember their names, but they're at least +2). Burning them with spells (fireball, Agannazar's Scorcher, Flame Arrow, etc) seems to weaken them a lot and is very effective.

    [IMG] C'Jakob,
Flamethongue is enchanted +4 vs. undead. Thus it can hurt every undead creature in SoA & ToB - including demi-liches btw ...

Sorry, Ragusa. But I'm not sure if it applies to other weapons. I've never used Flame Tongue, so I suppose I wouldn't know anyways.

I've read on here that you can spill Kangaxx' guts with the improved mace of dispruption. I suppose even if it can't hit him (+2) he can still fail his save against death.

All bonuses v certain creatures should surely if implemented correctly be valid "to hit" as well as damage?

Flame Tongue is enchanted +4 no matter if the opponent is undead or not.

So it can hurt every creature that isn't immune to +4 and less enchanted weapons. Yes, including demi-liches but it really doesn't matter if creature is undead or not.

OK where do you find flame tongue? Is it in one of the stores or do you find while adventuring?

    [IMG] Extremist,
as for flametongue, of course you were right ... maybe a little short, however, this the lengthy version:
Flametongue (sw1h24) is a miracle: It's enchantment is described as follows:
    • +1 general enchantment
    • +2 vs. regenerating creatures
    • +3 vs. cold/ fire using creatures
    • +4 vs. undead
So, reading the item description, you may think it's +1 with special effects ... as I did.

A look in the item statistics in the IEE shows it's indeed enchanted +4 ... despite the +1 only THACO bonus. This only underlines my opinion that flametongue is about the best sword in whole SoA.

The Holy Avenger beats it easily :p Anyway, it's easier to get just by popping to the adventurer's mart. Ribald keeps all sorts of neat (and not so neat) stuff in stock.

[IMG] Carsomyr, the holy avenger is for pallies only, and yes, it is very powerful ... but flametongue on the other hand is unrestricted by alignment and only clerics and druids cannot use it plus you can use it single handed/ dualwielded or with a shield.

Btw - flametongue can be found in Druid Cove, as Extremist said. Flametongue is not for sale in Ribald's Adventurers Mart! You have to fight to get flametongue. The sword you can buy at Ribalds is the firesword +1 (which, for some moronic reason, uses the same paperdoll as flametongue). The firesword +1 (sw1h53) is just a puny +1 enchanted longsword with +1 firedamage ... ;)
