Hey everyone. I'm trying to get a tcp/ip game going with my brother who lives in a separate house. I had him host and then I typed in the IP and tried to join. After a short delay it says I could not connect. When I try to host he gets the same message. We have the same game version and we are pretty sure we have the right IPs because of www.whatismyip.com. Is there something we need to do? Do we need to forward a port or what? Thanks for your help!

You could try Hamachi, it makes a virtual private network between computers, just use what ever IP address Hamachi will assign you.

You also might need to check your firewall/router settings, sometimes they block incoming stuff like people trying to connect to your BGII game.

I thought about the firewall settings. In most cases a game will provide you with a port number that you need to free up. I haven't been able to find anything about Icewind Dale 2 though. I'll try out Hamachi, thanks a lot.

Okay, I tried it. I connected onto a network with my brother, was able to ping him, all looked well. But then when I tried connecting to his game by typing in his Hamachi IP I got the same "cannot connect" message. I'm getting so damn frustrated.

Works for me but there could be something I'm forgetting, I had similar trouble with BGII, and IWDII for a while then I got hamachi, then it seemed to work fine.

    Hmm weird/annoying.

Guess the site went down/died. It used to work.

I know how to port forward. I've done it for a variety of games already, but since IWD2 doesn't list the ports it uses it doesn't really help. We finally got it working by each enabling the DMZ setting. I still with there were a less extreme method though.
