    ...Only 2 hours? :p

Yes, quarterstaff is a two-handed weapon. There aren't any good ones in BG, though.

Unless you have Tales of the Sword Coast. That has a +3 Staff.

Yep - two handed - and the viability of quarterstaves in BG is entirely dependent upon whether or not you have the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. Without the expansion, the best staff you'll be able to find is just a regular old quarterstaff +1. With the expansion though, it's a whole new ballgame. Not only is there the Martial Staff (a +3 weapon) but there is also a staff of striking, which while it has a finite number of charges does insane damage.

Strangely, I do not think there are any +2 quarterstaves in the regular game or the expansion. I think the staff spear is a +2 weapon, but that's technically not a quarterstaff.

But staff-spear still uses the quarter staff proficiency and benefits from two handed style as well.

You can buy the +3 staff in the town added by TotSC (sorry, I can't recall the name).

Ulgoth's Beard is the name and it's located east from Baldur's Gate. You can visit it anytime, but won't probably have the money in the beginning to buy the staff.

You can find Aule's Staff (the Quarterstaff +3) at Ulgoth's Beard, as previously documented. Look inside the local inn for the salesman ;). The Staff of Striking, on the other hand, can be uncovered in one of the containers past the eastern side of the "fungi" area of Durlag's Tower on the fifth underground level.

The former staff can be purchased reasonably early *if* you can afford it, whereas the Staff of Striking can take awhile to get to, even with proper levels and gear.

abit off topic but do you think i could finish the game without a thief? i'm sick of imoen & i'd praffer to finish the game with just 3 party members, viconia, misc, edwin

Do you mean the bandit scalps? If so, are you using Easy Tutu? I am and have no problems. Of course, the opportunity to cash them in ends after BG is accessible. In that case, I would try paying Thalantyr a visit.

Incidentally, if you have Tutu installed, this thread should have been posted in the ToB forum. ;)

Well, it is certainly possible. If you have Knock memorised then you don't have to worry about missing treasure in locked chests. You will, however, take more damage than is necessary from coming across traps. Durlag's Tower, in particular, would be a real pain without a thief, IMO.

How about trying an alternative to Imoen? Alora (if you can stand her) and Safana are both thieves. Montaron is also a possibility unless you managed to irritate him and Xzar. The other option is Tiax, a Cleric/Thief just outside the Flaming Fist compound. Tiax rules all!

na i mean that fat dude in nashkel, front of garrison. He wouldn't give me the bountry for the gems or the crazy cleric, he gives me the quests, but won't pay up, Considering losing 1 rep point pwning him with a staff across the head lol.

i'll try looking for tiax now, i've been running around doing little side quests trying to get gold for my staff lol

You can get more money by selling the Emeralds to a storekeep than going for the bounty.

If, by crazy cleric, you mean Bassilius, then you get the reward for his holy symbol at the Beregost Temple (a not inconsiderable amount- go for this if you haven't already). It is Brage, the guard captain, who is connected to Nashkel. No idea about the reward for turning him in- I've always redeemed him at the temple.

Tiax is easy- just outside the FF Compound. Can't miss him.
