I'm having a lot of trouble here. Am I making things easier or harder on myself if I ditch at this part of the game and decide to go into HoW instead?

    TIA

If you think that part is tough, then HoW's Burial Island is going to be impossible for you. Some areas in Dorn's Deep could be avoided or taken in different order.

    My Paladin is level 14 (that's the only one I know offhand), and I have a R/C, a F/D, a F/Ill, a F/M/T, and a Bard.

I'm playing on HoF mode (have been the whole time).

I don't understand your second sentence.

You should be able to handle it with the party. Just spam 3 webs an 1 entangle at the same time instead (if all you mages have web, that is....). I'd say it's the most important spell for them to have along with chromatic orb, and haste.

Burial Isle is indeed a very tough place, no place for someone who hasn't completed Lower Dorns Deep. ;)

The last time I went through Lower Dorns Deep was with a party of a Druid, Fighter, and Ranger and I recall that I did a lot of retreating. I would try to kill at least one enemy then I would heal up and rinse & repeat.

The forge was INCREDIBLY difficult, the only way I could beat that was through teeth-grinding tactics and, yes, a bit of luck. There was no way I could fight through that. Add in the fact that I made my Druid a pure caster instead of a caster who has skill with blunt weapons and you can imagine how hard the game was for me. :D

From my experience, Chapter 3 -> Chapter 4 bridge has always been hellishly difficult to cross. I think going to HoW after Chapter 3 is exactly what IWD developers intended: after all, Larrel offers PC exactly the same choice, Dorn's Deep or Kuldahar(and HoW!).

So, I usually recommend IWD NPC players to visit HoW areas after Chapter 3.

I disagree. Story-wise it makes more sense to do HoW after completing IWD entirely. One weapon in particular can only be upgraded to its fullest potential if you play in this sequence. Besides Dorn's Deep isn't that hard - it's Lower Dorn's that Klorox was complaining about, and that's chapter 6 (and is indeed hard). As for chapter 4, it's miles easier than Burial Isle.

Yeah, I found myself falling back on the inching-forward-to-uncover-one-enemy-then-luring-him-back-to-attack-you tactic. Not pretty, nor quick, but can be kind of handy to thin the ranks in situations where you can get outnumbered fairly quickly.

I too am currently in Lower Dorn's deep. The jump in difficulty when I first entered was surprising, but nothing I couldn't handle. Rather, challenging. You can always use haste, run away and rest like a coward if you really want to... :p

I had no trouble with any are of the game. Its mostly hack and slash all the way, so if you focus on fighter types, its alot easier. I think I had a paladin, a fighter\cleric, a fighter\thief, a bard, and 2 fighters when I finished the game. Focused alot on bows, if I remember correctly. I might try and play the game with a spell-heavy party, sometime in the future.

So, are y'all who didn't find it too tough playing in HoF mode, as I was when I posted this?

I completed the game, many moons ago, starting in HoF mode and never taking it off.

    It's quite an interesting challenge.

Yeah, people should read the whole thread, before spouting l33tness.

I too was playing in HoF mode. Had to play it very carefully, and systematically.

It is. The hardest part of the entire run in "HoF the whole way" was the first map after leaving the first town (those goblins are nasty!), Lower Dorn's Deep, and Burial Isle. Those undead chicks singing at you are unreal!
