    Hi all,

I have the 3 CD version, also installed BG Harder patch, Ease-of-use, Level 50 rules, FixPack 1.1 and GameTextUpdate 1.1, playing in serial multiplayer mode with custom characters.

My problem appears when I try to defend Aldeth in Cloakwood. Seniyad turns hostile, I waste him, but Aldeth does not want to speak with me. Seniyad's three lackeys are waiting patiently to the southeast and remain neutral even if I kill their boss (because druids are True Neutral?). I can kill them too with forced attack but that bastard Aldeth still does not want to thank me his life and without that he won't give me the quest later in Baldur's Gate.

Reloading or restarting the area does not help. Have you ever met this bug? Any ideas how to solve?

I have managed to solve it for myself in a difficult way. I describe it, maybe someone could find useful:

I reinstalled the whole game (of course keeping saved games) and realized that the Harder patch contained this bug (diagnostical method: installing all tweaks one by one and checking if the problem still exists; keeping a backup copy of the Override folder). Did not install Harder patch, killed Seniyad, got Aldeth's gratitude. After that installed Harder patch and gave 8000/2/4=1000 xp to all my 4 PCs with Shadow Keeper because that would mine without the bug.

9D8, at first I thought you were talking about a bug with our own dear Aldeth on this site and was going to gently suggest you take it to a different forum!
    Sometimes I'm a little slow. ;)

Good for you for sorting this out on your own. And I don't consider it cheating to award yourself points, items, or gold using Shadow Keeper when they match what you should have gotten from a bugged encounter.

No, I don't know anyone here. I've been using sorcerers.net for years to get files and info for my favourite games but this was the first occassion to write in the forum.
My solution is a bit long. I hope once they will upgrade BG Harder Patch because it has some more bugs, e.g. many bad guys attack us with bare hands.

I am Aldeth, and I bug no one. Well, at least mostly I do not. I am not surprised that the Harder Patch contained the bug though, as I've never heard of that happening without that patch. Out of curiosity, did it work fine if you sided with the druids?

Nice to meet you, famous Aldeth :-)
Siding the druids works fine but I always kill them, more XP and one more quest in the city.
However I like Harder Patch much. Battles won't be that boring and easy, and XP grows with double speed. After winning the game usually I transfer my characters to BG2 and edit their starting XPs to the last of their values in BG1. I don't think it's cheating, I fought many for that :-)

I don't think it's cheating either. Does the harder patch work like BGTutu in that it effectively removes the cap? The other reason I don't think it's a big deal to add on the XPs in BG2 is that a couple hundred thousand XPs is a drop in the bucket once you get into SoA and ToB where the XPs go into the millions. For most character types the amount of XPs you will be adding will be less than one level.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, it was Aldeth Sashenstar that I used to name my character. Although he is refered to as foppish in the game (from the doppleganger notes) he is never actually refered to as an idiot.

The harder patch does not remove the cap just gives enemies the thrice of their HP and doubles their XP value. I remove XP cap with Easy-of-Use pack. You are right, an extra 200000 XP in BG2 is not a serious advantage but it makes me happier to know that my characters are more powerful legally than it was intented. Playing computer games is a bit similar to having sex, everyone enjoys it in a unique way. Now I feel my Wisdom is at least 18.

If only sex always brought wisdom!

And our own Aldeth is not quite the idiot he claims, though I can't testify personally about the foppish part . . . :)

As for the problem, sounds like editing the characters is the only feasible workaround for keeping the mod you want. Have any other bugs shown up with this mod? I haven't used it yet but have thought about it, since I do like BG a lot but it does get a bit boring with lower level monsters.

You see, that's one of the things I find charming about BG. Sure it's fun to take on dragons, liches, and demons in BG2, but the chance that my level 2 characters might have a random encounter with a winter wolf, and have said winter wolf kick my party's collective arse is also fun. Heck a half dozen hobgoblins pose a challenge early in the game. The other thing you don't get when starting with more advanced characters is to see your party "grow up" for lack of a more descriptive term. Still, once you do get beyond the first couple of levels, upping the difficulty couldn't be a bad thing. Except maybe late in the game. There's some monsters in Durlag's Tower and the like that take a TON of abuse before dying the way it is. They'd be that much harder once they are beefed up.

Well, true, Aldeth. I'm always a little too impatient. It is kind of fun to slay a kobold and actually care. :D

Some bad guys (bounty hunters etc.) have no weapons. They attack with fists, maybe they are kung fu fighters or something. I'm sure it's a bug.
