I would just like to discuss what is the point of power gaming. You just repeatedly play through the game, remove experience cap, and use editors to make your experience higher, but whats the point? This just means you can gib the hardest monster without batting an eyelid. No fights are tough, and you don't have any fun trying how to work out tactics for hard battles, and you can complete the whole game with no satisfaction because you didn't have to try! Can someone tell me the point of this?

[IMG] Have you ever played Diablo? You obviously didn't, because if you would have, it'd all be so crystal clear... ;)
But I doubt that people who remove that cap actually play enough to gain what they want legit.
From my experience, it's like this: remove the cap, hack/edit the game and add yourself 3.000.000 XP and whee, now you can write 9th level spells and use them all the time. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
For the record, I've never used XP cap removers.

I agree that its Ok to edit characters and stuff for a bit of fun after you have finished the game properly. But I still disagree with playing over and over again with a souped character over the XP cap.

I have beaten the game 7 times now.
    I have beaten it with:
    Fighter/Thief
    Sorcerer
    Cavalier
    Swashbuckler
    Kensai/Mage
    Monk

And a multiplayer with the combination of the first 5 aforementioned characters.

I am currently in Chap 4 as a Ranger.

I have completed just about every quest, barring a few character quests, and have played the game through several different aspects. IMO, I have earned the right to use XP cap removers, Shadowkeeper, and anything else that could possibly squeeze a little more enjoyment out of the game. There are only SO MANY ways you can kill a dragon.

I agree that the first time through, no form of cheats such as XP cap remover should be used. As I have voiced before, however, afterwards you should be at liberty to remove the INEXPLICABLE memory block your character has.
I see nothing wrong with "cheating the game", so long as you are enjoying yourself.

That is the point isn't it?

Do you actually do anything else other than play the game? :) Just joking around.

I can see right now that we are about to start getting a lot more power gaming comments and flamings. Who Deany, you should hook up with Syl with your rash of comments of the such. Anyway, do I even need to point out that those people that choose to use the remover shelled out enough money for the game that they can do whatever the hell they want with it. And besides, if they repeatedly play trough the game to get to such high levels, who cares. They invested the time to see what they could make of their characters. If they used it on their first run through, I think they are only cheating themselves of the experience. But then, that's none of my business, is it.

    Wow Amon-Ra, impressive :).

Well, I agree with you and Crawl. Personnally, I bought the game so I can do whatever I want. But, yes with cheating I don't enjoy the game, so I don't cheat. But (again), why characters should have their skills blocked ? No reason, except Bioware's will.

Then, I want to try to solo with a soloing Sorcerer now (I'm closed to complete my 2nd game), maybe in Hard difficulty.

Finally, why other spellcasters can cast 9th spells while I cannot, where is the logic ? I want to try and test these spells in different conditions. I don't talk about this dimension door spell we cannot use... yes I know you can add it to your spell book with SK but I didn't do that... yet :) maybe later to see what effect this spell has in the game.

IMHO, the main plot is to enjoy the game.

If you had played the game properly at least once, I see nothing wrong with hacking, as long as you have fun. The point is to know yourself. For some, it ruins the game. For others, it doesn't. The only objection I have is to those who shove hacked characters into multiplayer games. I don't play BG multiplayer, but I can believe it would ruin the experience for others. In single player, you can do what you darn please.

Oh yes Crazy J, that's for sure. It's one of the reason I stopped to play D2, because a lot of players play with nasty behaviors for others. I've been disgusted to play in that conditions (someone successed to steal me some nice items :o ).

And btw, yes I completed my first game without removing the cap, it was my first challenge : do the game without sleeping. So, imagine, I did only the main quest as quick as possible and I finnished the game at lev14 or something like that, really hard.
I've just finnished my second game (30 mn ago), and my characters have gained 3.005.000 XPs, so only 55 000 over the cap.

Heh. Actually, at 16, I run Varsity track and field, play Varsity academic team, work as a System Administrator for Sherline Products, am on course to graduate as the Valedictorian of my graduating class, and in addition to my gaming world I am in the top 10 players in the world in Unreal Tournament and play p&p D&D on weekends with my friends.

Sorry to toot my own horn, but eh, I just couldn't help it...

I have removed the XP cap "just in case" I hit the cap, but I am not searching for the XP, I have played through (quite quickly) with Phycho Bob the fighter, it was pretty dull, so I am doing it again doing most quests with Phycho Bob (Monk) an i am far from the XP cap any way.
