Do you also intentionally trip the Battle Horror traps in Cloakwood Mines?

This has become standard procedure for me. I even did it in a no-reloads game. :D

The first two traps in the hallway each spawn a Battle Horror. What I usually do is send a thief to detect the traps, then order him/her to disarm trap #3 (I think it´s a Glyph of Warding) and #4 (also something nasty).

To deal with the Battle Horrors:
    * If I have Chromatic Orb at level 7, I´ll use that since they seem to fail their save often. Then any character can just hack them up with a magical weapon.
    * Otherwise, I attract their attention and lead them back and into the first side room (the one to the characters´ right when they come down the stairs), lure them all the way up to the wall, then drink an Invisibilty potion. In this scenario, I deal with them after Davaeorn. The character(s) I need for the fight with the mage now need to hug the walls to their left so the Battle Horrors won´t see them. After the Davaeorn fight, I can use the "loop" on this floor and a thief with Boots of Speed to take down the Horrors with repeated backstabs.
    * My third way is more direct: Acid Arrows. Although the piercing damage does nothing to them, the 2D6 acid damage works nicely. Two good archers won´t need many rounds to take a down a Battle Horror.

I think 8k is a nice chunk of XP at this stage of the game.

I don't think I every did that intentionally. I usually disarm the traps. I also didn't know that acid arrows worked on battle horrors, and that IS useful information. Acid arrows are expensive as hell, but by that stage of the game money already shouldn't be too much of an issue, and you wouldn't need to buy a ton of them at any rate. I don't think Thunderhammer sells acid arrows, but you can probably pick some up at High Hedge.

I, too, often do that. The key point is the Wand of Paralyzation: after that they're a piece of cake.

To be honest, I usually just use dispel magic on them.

You know, dispelling their flaming swords, so they can only beat you with their fists. That way they can't kill you, then you can have fun try out lots of new ways of fighting and beating them. The worst that can happen is that your entire party is at 1 hitpoint, and have to wait to wake up while they beat on someone else.

Just don't pull Davy into the fight ;)

No, I never really thought about it, to be honest. Perhaps I will next time.

Now that is one cool idea.

Yes, it is a brilliant method....without their swords they are less battle horrors and more battle inconveniences. Can you also just run up the stairs after triggering the Battle Horrors and wait for 8 or 9 rounds until the duration of the spell is up and the flaming swords dissipate?

LOL, I never thought of doing this before, nor did I know you could Dispel their weapons!

This is awesome, and the powergamer in me is definitely doing this next time! :D :D :D

I found out about dispelling their blades on accident and it is really useful. But watch out, they may not do much damage without the blades, but with their high strength they knock your characters silly pretty quick.

My, I never knew their weapons were dispellable too! Brilliant, brilliant and cool strategy! I will have to try and see that! Are their weapons easy to dispel in TuTu? (since level difference between caster lvls is important) But I guess a nasty Arrow of Dispelling always works.

Yes, I have seen it mentioned. Among other things, Dispel removes the Blur effect and makes it easier to hit.

But I have always found paralysing Doomsayer to be the best way to kill it. Either a Wand of Paralyzing charge, a Hold Monster or a level 7+ Chromatic Orb. Or several, if it saves.
