I recently came back to playing Baldur's gate and after importing my fighter from a non-modded BG1 game into SoA he continually keeps trying to hide in the shadows  I figured it would go away after a while so I played with him through Irenicus dungeon and dualed him to a mage now but he keeps on doing it. Any ideas on how this is happening? Or more importantly how to stop it from happening? Because it's really starting to annoy me to have my protagonist stop whatever he's doing to fail to hide in the shadows
I have downloaded shadowkeeper, but I haven't figured out how to use it to solve this problem so if anyone has any pointers, please share them with me!

FYI: Even though my kensai/mage sometimes succesfully hides (even with 0% stealth :D) he can't make sneak attacks :(

Do you have one of the thief AI scripts assigned? Scripts can try and hide a character in shadows, even if the character doesn't actually have the ability to do so.

Nope, no thief script, he's on a fighter script because I use him mainly for melee combat.

Finally figured it out, it actually was due to the combat script. Apparently the fighter2 script is a melee script in BG1 but changed to a ranger "use ranged weapons and hide when possible" script.

They come with the game, if you go to the stats page of your character you can click customize and alter portrait, colors and AI scripts they're using.

Yeah I already found that out. Btw, "Agressive Thief" doesn't seems to work. My thief doesn't hide in shadows when enemies are near, nor he tries to back stab them... You have any idea how to use "Agressive Thief" script?

Is the party AI open? The lantern icon on the right bottom of the screen? Scripts will not work if it is OFF.

As a side note, you can not succeed in hiding in shadows when in the line of sight of hostile creatures, not even if your skill is something like 500%. So the script won't try to hide if enemies are nearby. Use magic to go invisible when near enemies (potions and spells of invisibility), or retreat, turn around a corner so that they won't see you for at least a second and go hide at that instant! I was able to easily kill stupid but extremely tough flesh golems in TuTu that way. Backstab, retreat, hide and repeat. Dead flesh golem, no scratch on your thief, and tons of XP! :thumb:

With 'Thief Aggressive' and 'Thief Scout'You will hide in shadows when there are no enemies. Difference is, Scout will never attack enemies by itself to break the invisibility, while the Aggressive will aggressively try to backstab the nearest enemy.

You can hide near enemies when all of them are asleep, unconcious, paralysed, held or disabled in some other way.

But such auto-hide scripts are annoying as when you try to cast a spell (a nice healing spell, or buff) on such a character, poof he goes hide and the spell fails with the annoying 'target gone' message. I don't like to use those scripts at all. Thief adventurer is the best script for me. (it always checks for traps, a real life saver)
