Powerful uses of UAI

I'm trying to find some powerful uses for the Thief High Level Ability: Use Any Item.

I've thought of boosting physical resistances (Defender of Easthaven, Jan's Armor), boosting magical resistances (Carsomyr, dunno what else), and I'm trying to think of others.

It's been a really long time since I played a Thief to a high level, and I plan on doing it this time. I'm trying to figure out how to plan my proficiencies (he's actually a Fighter/Thief of some sort -- either multiclass, or dual (Wizard Slayer, Barbarian, Berserker, Kensai).

Well, UAI is pretty powerful. The best thing about it is that you can use scrolls and cast for example level 9 spells from scrolls.
Pretty useful in certain situations. There are also a lot of lower level spells that are very useful for a Fighter/Thief (keep your spare Stoneskin scrolls!)

 

Carsomyr is great, if you have proficiencises in great swords, otherwise you won't hit the wide side of the barn. Helmet of Balduran is a must. Or any other powerful helmet, for that matter. Amulet of power, longswords that aren't usable by thiefs(can't remember any specific name, but I'm almost positive there are few of those). All great items that aren't usable by thief. If you have INT 9+(which you almost should have) use scrolls to help your mages. Time stop, then Wail of banshee and similar high level spells can be devastating. Or just time stop, hoard yourself a load of Invisibility potions and backstab to your leisure.

In short, be creative Only limit is your imagination.

 

Vhailor's Helm is one the greatest things a thief can have. Time Stopping Simulacrum with Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialization and Improved Haste gives you extra edge or two if it's dualwielding the Scarlet Ninja-To and Belm for instance...

 

Scarlett Ninja-To and Montolio's Cloak. Great combination for a dual wielding thief. Does wielding Scarlett Ninja-To and Belm give two extra attacks?

Blessed Bracers, Tsu-Zan's Bracers both help armor class and add hit points. Also, for the non-fighter Wong Fei's Ioun Stone for an even greater boost in hit points (but that would mean giving up the thieves hood -- a questionable trade off).

The amulet of power for immunity to level drain. Anyone know if UAI allows you to wear the Harper's Pin?

The cleric-thief can wear the Robe of Vecna (any thief can for the magic resistance, but it really helps the cleric-thief).

 

Yes, as does Kundane (that's overkill with a specialized DC or MC Fighter level 13).

 

I'd never thought of that. But then again, given their enchantment level, I think one could do better.

Me, I like Scarlet Ninja-to as an offhand weapon. And if you're willing to create a multi Kensai/Thief, well, that's a lot of fun, but you better have a difficulty-increasing mod (such as SCS II or IA) installed if you want to still have a challenge.

 

WOW...i never thought about dual wielding 2 items that give extra attacks....i think i'll never stop learning something new in this game...

 

Kundane and Belm are not that effective in the late game when you need +3 weapons but it's definitely nice to use them in SoA.

 

That's where the UAI kicks in with a dual- or multiclassed fighter/thief.
