Only tried once, wasn't convinced. I like MC or DC better especially thieving types or divine spellcasters so I guess I'm not unbiased.

I'm now ready to go to Brinlaw with my monk12 and for now it's very cool. Better Tank than Keldorn.

    Monk
    Keldorn
    Anomen (Sorry, Keldorn killed Viccy)
    Nalia (Waiting for Imoen)

My next game will probably be a Kensai/Mage before the Beastmaster.

Hm, has anyone completed the game with a monk, or at least have one at level 21?

Oh yes. Definitely. TOO easy by level 21 :)

I can't remember where I read that a level 21 monk is a "dervish of destruction", but after playing it to that level I couldn't agree more. He was practically zipping around the map on his own killing everything in sight with such ease it was scary. And with bare fists!

I played almost all classes (well, except the Beast Master for sure :) ) and currently I'm playing the Monk again.

I can say that for me, personally, Monk was the easiest. Easier, than F/T, or Undead Hunter, even.

Monk is helpless till level 9, and from 9 to, say, 12 level he is as bad as the next guy. Dual-wielding Valygar or Korgan, heck, even Minsc with faithful Lilllllacor make better fighters.

After 12 level, however, he begins to come into his own, and after several more levels he gets 40-45% of party XP.

Soloing - well, after 15 level there's NO PROBLEM with ANY monsters. Except vampires. Vampires are really annoying. :-(

[IMG] Well, i'm playing with a monk now for the first time, and i like it, he takes care of enemies quick.
I have a party with Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Nalia and Jan, but Yoshimo will be replaced by
Imoen, and i'm thinking about one more character to replace for Sarevok, which one will do?

Faraaz - sorry to have offended you. I have a nasty habit of being a pain-in-the-ass, and I'm just having a hard time laying it off :D

And furhter, I hate when people offend the character classes!

But please - DON'T take it personal. It isn't.

You don't need Nalia to complete the Stronghold quests anyway. She'll give you a guilt trip when you ask her to leave, but that's it.

Why Jan AND Yoshimo? I think you only need 1 theif and yoshi is the better one in my opinion.

No, why Nalia, Jan AND Yoshimo ? :)
Minsc+Monk - a bit weak for the front line.

I still don't know why everyone hates Nalia. She is the best non-evil NPC wizard in the game. Nalia rules. But this is off-topic, so I'll shut up for now.

Monks are good. Sure they're powerfull. :D

My first run through was with a monk and we had a good time in a party. Early doors yeah, he was a bit weak. Later killing machine. Great!

So I thought I'd try a solo monk for a new game... Well, so far easier than sorcerer solo to be honest. Yeah, I have had to walk away from a couple of optional fights early on as I couldn't see any point in wasting all my healing potions for a +2 sword I couldn't ever use. I picked neutral for him and I've made very good use of that Horror special ability :)

Currently at level 13 and really, only a couple of tough times so far, like trying to do the slavers straight away, then after much pain finally getting through only to find Hendak gone, so no XP :( Darn! First time that's happened to me.

Didn't take the Iron golem at Nalia's on either - What a wimp I am ;) Killed the others though.

@Viking: Go up the corridor with the secret door, Hendak should be at its beginning, closer to the main hall.

A tip for people who play Monks: use 2 potions of Mind Focusing each day, your AC is bad at the very beginning, and this way you'll get +2 AC.
It's also good for people who hate Nalia: her Open Locks and Find Traps will increase: +30.

Monk's fists are as long as Two handed sword, you can kill that Iron Golem quite easily :)

Does anyone know if there is a bug in the monk movement speed at level 21 +? He moves no faster than the rest of the party... and by lvl 19 he could almost be on par with someone with the boots of speed.

If you have Baldurdash, no bugs should be present.
