Problem with a heavily modded game

I finished my BG1 game earlier today so I decided to move to BG2. I went for a Silverstar-like BG2 install with as much interesting mods as I could find on the IE modlist. As soon as I downloaded everything and saw how many files were there I kinda figured I'll have some issues with the game, it was just too much to read all the readme files, so I went in a berserker like install rage and hoped for the best.

Anyway, here's the list and I'll describe the problem after that:

Ok so maybe not as big as Silverstar's but I hope I'm close

Now the problem is that in the first cut-scene in Irenicus' dungeon when he makes that "more experiments" banter he goes off to deal with the Shadow thieves and after that nothing happens. That little thief doesn't arrive running at the bottom and Imoen doesn't come to free me. It just stays locked in the cut-scene and I have to ctrl-alt-del out of it. So, any thoughts? (since I'd *really* hate to have to reinstall everything and read every readme file)

 

Don't know what combo screwed it up, but you could try and install Dungeon-be-Gone mod. Then that cutscene never appears, just the Golem then Imoen enters. Installing yet another mod might not be what you need though

 

um, Spetznaz, i have dungeon-be-gone & i always get the cutscene before imoen shoews up.

 

Is that the install order you've posted up?

I'll have a browse around, I haven't played most the mods listed so am not sure which ones could affect the first area yet.

 

If I'm reading your install list correctly, you have two fixpacks installed: Baldurdash-WEIDU, and "ToB-fixpack" which I presume is the G3 Fixpack.

If I'm wrong, sorry. If I'm right, that's likely to lead to major problems: you can't have two fixpacks installed.

 

Nope, I have Baldurdash Weidu 1,66 and "Baldurdash Throne Of Bhaal Post-Patch FixPack v1.12" that came with it.

And I don't have Dungeon-be-gone installed, I skipped that because of the Imoen romance

I've actually spent most of the evening checking those readmes and I've uninstalled everything that had a connection with the cut-scenes (I believe that the problem was the Faster Chapter 1&2 Cut-Scenes & Dreams (Karzak, Blucher, aVENGER, Weimer) from the BG2 Tweaks which is a real shame since I was looking forward to seeing those funny scenes). If anyone has an idea of how to successfully install that part I'm all ears...

Anyway, I made my way through Irenicus' dungeon but I have a new problem now. In the circus quest after talking to Aerie for the first time she just disappeared and I finished the quest without her but then after killing Khalah the game blocks again during his dying cut-scene. Any ideas about that one?

*sigh* I guess this game is hopeless and I'll have to reinstall everything with more care.

@8people: yeah that's the exact install order I used...

 

Easier to just call it 'Baldurdash' to save confusion then.

I also had problems with Faster Cut-Scenes (specifically, the starting one you had), but I don't know what will have caused to later problem.

And yes, reading through the readmes before installing is a much better idea than just doing it randomly. If you are having problems already, you'll likely end up with more later too. Starting over is the only way to be sure.

Any particular reason you are using both Ease-of-Use and Tweak Pack?

 

I guess the use or EoU and Tweak pack is more a habit but I just use the romance fix in the EoU so I'm not sure if there should be problems. Anyway I decided to go through everything and made a fresh new install this morning, also removed some things that I thought could cause problems.

Sadly I still have that problem with Aerie, after her 1st talk as an ogre she just leaves and then after I kill Kalah she walks again out of the circus leaving me trapped in the cut-scene.

So any idea what could cause the Aerie problem from this list? Could it be the Lv1-Npc mod? Even though Minsc works just fine.

 

I don't know, but as far as fixpack/ascension goes next time Ascension is first then Fixpack. And SCSII is last AFAIK.

 

Yes, but he said that the thief didn't come running into the room which doesn't even happen with Dungeon-be-Gone.

 

spetznaz, i just(not 1 minute ago) made a new character & watch the whole cutscene including the thief getting hit by the 2 spells & dieing before imoen shows up and talks to me. After that st. baird(sp?) shows up to take us to the surface.
Now i have a pretty vanilla game as the only mods i'm running this time are:
G3 fixpack
3 npc mods
dungeon-be-gone
thats it so maybe if you are running any other mods it is causing the rest of the cutscene not to play but it isnt because of the D-B-G.

So I'm pretty sure that's what's causing it (although I still have no idea why it's causing it or how to fix it other then uninstalling it. And you might notice that in my 2nd install order I added Dungeon-be-gone and quite successfully went through Irenicus' crib

But the problem is still Aerie. Any ideas what's causing that bug? Please, I'm desperate

 

I'm not 100% sure but i think changing her to a geo. sorc has prob done it. if you have a save from before change her to some other class. & check it out.

 

I think you're right about that one, expect I think it's because of the Lv1-NPC in general since I tried Aerie as a plain sorc as well and it gave me the same problem. Anyway I skipped circus in that game but I later encountered an invincible Suna Seni (for which I blame UB mod, that thing always gave me trouble). So, I went for *another* reinstall, this time skipping UB completely, I didn't install Geom.sorc either and I've only used the Lv1-NPC on Minsc, Mazzy and Viconia. Thank God everything seems to be working until now...

 

Not quite close to my current mod list, but sure it is impressive.

You should not have installed Baldurdash with G3 fixpack, as others kindly reminded. Also, I have heard Imoen romance was kinda buggy so it may not be optimal for a big-mod game.

 

Ah but that wasn't G3 fixpack but some Baldurdash's fixpack that came with it so I figured they would be compatible. At least everything is working fine with my current game...

Any chance you could post your famous mod list so we could see it?

 

Meh, it would be ugly...plus I used to have two different BG2 installations, both identical in other (many) mods, but one has SCS II and other has IA installed as the last mod. (also, they had the respective, compatible fix packs to avoid bugs) I had to uninstall IA one to save some space in my poor hard disc, but alas, I am now in love with Easy TuTu (and its many mods) and can not even start a BG2 game without finishing it one hundred percent.
