Diablo 2 is important for me because I found BG2 when I was searching for a game like D2 because I thought D2 was the best game I've ever played. Who could have known that I would find a better game. Anyway I like D2 as an action game not a RPG, if you look at it this way it is one of the best action games. Whenever I'm bored of quests of BG and want some action I go slaughter monsters of D2.

 

I was addicted to that game for 3 years, stoped, started, stoped...

yeh basically the same story for me too. while D2 is great i like BG2 better, its much more deeper in virtually every aspect.

 

I asked for Diablo II for Christmas the year it came out. Instead I ended up getting BG instead and have thanked Santa ever since (and the guy at the video game store who advised my mom on the decision).

The one thing I really enjoyed about Diablo are the random items and their effects.

 

I LOVED Diablo. It's one of those few games that still grab in a way that most games don't and it does it with such a shallow, almost non-existent storyline.

The music is extraordinary, however it can get a little repetitive. The characters are a bit shallow but their dialog gives them a bit of character which is something I can't say for the likes of Morrowind or Oblivion. Overall, the game emits a very spooky, foreboding atmosphere that most games fail considerably at, and again it does this with very few tools.

If you read the manual, it treats you to such a finely detailed and rich backstory which gives a lot of perspective on the world. It's too bad that Blizzard didn't focus on this rich storyline in the game itself.

I personally think that Diablo 2 had better gameplay, most people would probably agree. However, it lost it's feel. It didn't have that atmosphere the original had. It was a good game: great music, decent graphics, better character flexibility, more detailed storyline, and more expansive landscapes but it felt far more epic and less claustrophobic and depressing.

Anyway, the entire franchise is just phenomenal and I put it up there with the likes of Fallout and Icewind Dale.

 

Spot on. Diablo just has this atmosphere - from the celtic Tristram soundtrack and colour of the exocet font, to the dreaded Butcher and the dying screams of blood knights.

Diablo 2 was much more action and build focused.

Diablo 3 = best of both worlds? We wait and hope.

 

The dungeon music in Diablo has this feeling of underlying menace in those 4 tracks. I think that's why they're so atmospheric and don't get old even with the repitition. The Tristram music got on my nerves very quickly but never the other ones.
