Ah looks like the BG2 bug has bit me again. I'm planning to try out SCSII this time, and with a jack of all trades character. Which would you guys suggest as a more well rounded character, the fmt or a SK'ed multi swashie/mage

Way I see it, FMT will have more attacks, better thaco (i think), and GWW
Swashie/Mage will have higher dmg and higher mage levels

I left the blade out, because I wanted a character that could handle traps, locks etc etc

Please give me your opinions, and TIA

Higher mage level is always better.

You wont be able to backstab, but I guess thats not the end of the world. As T2 says, you will probably miss the extra mage levels more than the odd backstab, depending on your playstyle.

Remember to install aVengers Rogue Rebalancing (or at least part of it), which I think changes Swashbucklers to make them closer to P&P (and slightly better I think).

It gives them fighter thac0 instead of a +1 bonus every 5 levels, which means the Swash/mage will have better thaco than the equivilant xp F/M/T. an RR swashbuckler also gains two stars in rogue weapons instead of one, but thief/mages don't so you'll have to sk in the second star.

It is a really good combo, i am playing through BGT with Imoen as a Swash/Mage and the combination of staffs & short bows she's doing an impressive amount of damage at any distance.

@Mongerman: all that being said if its a solo game F/M/T is generally the best all rounder with fighter HLA's being the icing on the cake.

if you go f/m/t you wont get the high level spell (summon planetar) and abilities a mage normally gets. i mean the special ones. not the normal high level spells per say. does that make sense?

Well, I was fooling around with SK and the swashie/mage, and I noticed my character getting extra spell slots. Then I remembered vaguely I had done this before, went and dug up a few old threads of mine, and realised its not an isolated case. Seems like the game checks for kits in multi class mages, and adds an extra spell slot for specialization whether its a mage kit or not. Thats too much of a cheat to me, so I'm probably gonna go f/m/t or f/m and include Imoen in my party. Thanks guys

I like the FMT because it isn't cheated.

It always seemed to me to be a flaw in the engine that you couldn't pick a kit for a multiclass on character creation, not a deliberate decision by the designers.

Although i would agree it is cheating (or rather a bit muchkin) to add an unbalanced kit from a mod to a multiclass.

but a swashie/mage, stalker/cleric or kensai/thief is fine to me.
