For my latest journey through the game I decided I wanted both a ranger/cleric and a jester in the group, since they both sounded interesting. However, I didn't like the idea of making both characters at the beginning, since I don't like how the extra player-made party members have no personality, or anything to say to other NPCs. So I thought that perhaps I could use Shadowkeeper to switch Haer'Dalis over to a jester, since I wanted to see the romance between him and Aerie anyway. I got him in the party, used shadowkeeper to switch his kit over to a jester, gave him innate jester abilities for level 1-10 (there were none), and removed his offensive/defensive spins. Upon loading up the game, I found he was listed as a jester, but his song hasn't changed. It still gives party members the little bard song icon, and doesn't do anything to enemies. I can't figure out how to change this. Does anyone know if it's possible? I'm pretty sure that once he gets to choose high-level abilties, I'll be able to choose the improved jester song (I'm using the refinements mod), which will correct the problem. But I'd like to not have to wait until I'm at a high level to have him work like a true jester.

I use SK to switch NPC classes all the time. In your case, what I’d do is copy the save game to the mpsave folder, start up a mutliplayer game, load that game, and add a jester. Use the console to give the jester the same XP as Haer’Dalis and level the jester up. Save the game, and open up SK. Compare HD to the jester, and make the appropriate changes, paying special attention to the Innate and Affects tabs. On the Affects tab, it’s best to delete everything for HD and copy everything from the jester over to HD. Save the game, start up the mp game (deleting the jester in the process), save the game again, copy over to the save folder, and start up the single player game.

Earlier I had tried comparing the affects, innates, and variables between Haer'Dalis and another main character jester I had made. I gave Haer'Dalis all the affects and innate abilities of my jester, but they didn't work.

But it turns out I didn't have to. I went ahead and did the theater quest, during which Haer'Dalis disappears from the group. When he came back, his song was now working like a jester's. I'm not sure why it happened, but I'm certainly not complaining.

This all sounds FAR too complicated. Surely it would be mroe fun to just play the game, rather than tinkering around under the bonnet? Maybe I just have so little time to actually play that the last thing I want to do is spend my precious time re-configuring everything.

If you did just create two PCs in a multiplayer game, can one of them still have a romance with an NPC?

Actually HB, I like to try different classes but I also like NPC interactions. Using SK to change classes of NPC's gives the best of both worlds.

As a bit of an aside, in my current game, I have Minsc as a Fighter /Thief multi. When I have him hide in shadows, he says "None shall see me now – though my battle-cry may give me away" (Actually, it kind of surprised me that the developers actually thought to create that line for him - maybe because of him normally being a Ranger?)

Only the one you created first.

well....Minsc IS Ranger anyway which means that he has stealth skill (which I've never used), so that's why he got a line for the hiding in shadow.

    p.s. hmm...if Minsc hide...than what Boo do?

    You're right.
Anyone that has been abusing project image on Edwin(a) knows that he got some lines about setting trap and hide in shadow

"I have set a trap, but I prefer a direct assault attack anyway" :shake:

*sigh* The NPC's sounds set is way better than the PC's >__>

In any multiplayer only the charecter created in the first (required) slot is considered the Bhallspawn. The others are just party members.
This affects everything from romance options to the Find Familiar spell and the ability to boot them from your party.

    @dreary
Did Haer'Dalis levelup anytime while you were trying to change his song. Any discrepancies in a charecters' affects are rectified on levelup. Or in forced situations, I guess.

Actually, I don't think he did. In fact, when I was experimenting earlier I tried giving him a few million experience points, just to see if leveling him up would fix his song. It didn't. I wonder if simply kicking him out of the party would have worked.

Interesting indeed, I tried to tinker with the NPCs once with SK, turning Valygar into a wizard slayer made a lot of sense.
