Hi guys, the bug bit me again. I'm in for a ToB-run solo with no reloads.

I don't know which class it will be but I suspect I'll go for a sorc or fighter/thief.

    Any suggestions/tips?

personally i would go with a fighter/theif as i think they are more fun to play, and they will also be easier at first, but fun and a worthy challenge throughout the game, and they are very versatile when you get UAI, if you don't know the game and spells that well this should be your pick

sorcerers is a bit harder at first, but they are godlike at lvl 18, the sheer power of these are pretty wild, on the other hand it might get a bit boring at the end, but they are very fun as well. though you might want to study and plan the spells before gaming as it can potentially make it if not impossible then very annoying if you pick some wrong spells or do not pick some very good ones

I suspect you’d have a really tough time for a no-reload game without arcane magic. I’m sure a sorcerer could do the trick, but you'd need to know what you’re doing.

I’m currently running an SCS2 solo with a fighter/mage/thief (although I cheated by SKing in a Morturi kit for the fighter, but I’m not suggesting you do the same). I’ve found that Mirror Image has become my best friend for the tougher fights – just put the image in a corner somewhere safe, and hack your enemies to bits while they stand around not being able to do a thing about it. :D

Edit: I just realized that, with UAI, a F/T can get arcane magic by using scrolls. The problem as I see it is that you might need more scrolls than what you can get.

I'm going to assume you mean Mislead. :p Unless you've figured out a way to detach the mirrored images from your character...?

Yeah, yeah. One of those "M class" spells. :p

Actually, now that I think of it, mirror image, when combined with infravision, makes me unbeatable. :p

What the hell? This is a joke i suppose?

I was thinking with sorcerer I'd go for summons and mislead/simulacrum/project image and maybe SI: Divination.

With the thief I dont really know, maybe kensai/thief or pure swashie?
I just installed the game again and I think I'll go for a pretty much unmodded game I'll just use some of the ease-of-use mods and the bonus merchants.

Thieves get to create scrolls via HLAs as well, and mages and clerics can scribe scrolls too with a mod. (though crappy ones most of the time)

A sorcerer is the easiest to solo a no reloads game, no doubt...a F/T, though powerful in certain situations, can easily be slaughtered when cornered by, say, a group of fire giants and the like. While a sorcerer just spawns protection from magic weapons, stoneskins, mirror image etc. and drain the life out of them with triple Abi Dalzims in Chain Contingencies, nasty that! And if enemy has magic resistance, Dragon's Breath and/or Energy Blades are your best friends!

I've soloed a F/T on Ascension no-reload insane, and in fact, it turned out to be one of the easiest characters.

A F/T cannot die to a mere group of Fire Giants: just equip him properly:

    Jansen's Adventurewear
    Roranarch's Horn
    Defender of Easthaven off-hand
    Ring of Fire Control
a Potion of Fire resistance consumed

Your F/T (with Hardiness) will have 85% Slashing damage resistance and 127% Crushing and Fire damage resistance, thus he will actually receive more healing than damage from enemy Fire Giants' attacks.

Right now I don't remember if a Dwarf can be a F/T multi - if so, this is the excellent option, because, although a Dwarf has less dexterity, he has excellent racial saving throw bonuses.

A Gnome F/T is also very good - these little guys have racial saving throw bonuses vs spells and wands.

Time traps, in conjuction with excellent melee skils, almost always are enough to take care of a dangerous enemy (dragon) or the most dangerous enemy in a certain group (Hive Mother or other).

In fact, the versatility of the F/T makes him excellent in all situations, by just using items which grant permanent bonuses when equipped:

For instance, against dangerous mages, Carsomyr + Human Flesh armor + other MR granting gear is sufficient.

And in the last Ascension battle, a F/T is nigh invincible, with 100% missile damage resistance (Reflection shield vs Illasera & Fallen Solars), 85% slashing and piercing resistance, 127% Crushing resistance, a ProMagic scroll activated, and afterwards cast from scrolls: proFire, proCold, proElec, proAcid, proMagicEnergy for 100% other resistances.

saros, I've been playing this game for several years, but it's people like you who make me feel like I'm a rookie. :(

You're obviously a much better tactician than I am - I rarely get very analytical in terms of which items to equip in certain situations, etc. I can see why you were able to successfully solo Improved Anvil. :)
