I'm about to import my Archer from Tutu and I decided to create all five NPCs and play a multiplayer game, but I'm facing the eternal obnoxious dilemma: what charachters should I make? I'm not looking for munchkin stuff (no kensai->mages, please!), I'd rather play some interesting builds.
I'm going to play with the following mods:
    -Ascension
    -Sword Coast Stratagems 2
-Rogue Rebalancing (still undecided about the HLA revisions, I'll surely install the CoC component).

The only charachter I already decided to include is a Wild Mage, so this leaves four.

Thanks to all who will contribute!

One fun way to avoid super munchkin builds is to limit yourself to single-class characters. That's what I do. I highly recommend it.

To that end, here would be a fun party:

    -Archer: Given
    -Wild Mage: Given
-Kensai: Specialize in throwing daggers! Very cool and super damaging. Combining this with your archer and you'll be able to destroy tons of enemies from ranged. Nice change of pace from the standard single-class fighter (i.e. berserker with standard superweapons)
-Half-Orc barbarian: Barbarians aren't used so much, but they should be! Give him super constitution and the defender of easthaven in his off-hand weapon slot. This guy will be a super meat-shield. Have him soak up damage while your archer and kensai turn things to pieces with their ranged attacks.
-Swashbuckler: Takes care of your thieving needs, and can reach extremely good armor class, thus allowing him to be there in the heat of battle alongside your barbarian while your other four characters do ranged havok.
-Cleric of Lathander: Your cleric... give him energy blades later in the game to cause even more ranged destruction!

    Why this party is cool:

You have a non-standard setup. 6 single-classes means you'll advance in levels quicker. You also have a cool ranged theme. Your kensai and archer will do INSANE ranged damage, and your mage and cleric can go nuts with spells. Meanwhile, your barbarian and swashie can keep the bad guys busy chasing them. Also, your barbarian and swashie represent the two primary modes of defense, high hit points and low armor class, so it will be a fun experiement to see who gets hurt less between the two! Thinking about it... this setup sounds so fun I might have to try it myself!!! Its somewhat unique without being contrived, and its still super powerful. Plus you only have one arcane caster, which is nice because arcane spells are superpowered and make everything too easy! Trust me, wild mage is enough arcane power for an entire party!

If you want a more standard setup (yawn), go with something like:
    archer
    wild mage
    inquisitor
    ranger/cleric
    fighter/thief
    fighter/mage

I agree with Nataben on the single class builds. Some of the best play-throughs for me have been single-class characters.

    Some ideas:
Swashbuckler: definatelly, I'm playing a single-class swashie right now, using RR as well. Fast leveling, fighter thac0 and plenty of thief skills. This character is amazing. I have her dual wield daggers and short swords, there's some pretty good daggers added with RR.
Druid: I feel druids are underplayed (well, except for Jaheira), a single-class druid could prove a bit of a challenge. They don't have the AC or staying power of the cleric or F/D, but they can provide excellent support. Consider kitting into avenger or shapeshifter to spice it up.
Undead Hunter: even though you want to avoid powerplaying, SCS forces you to take at least some power with you (well, for me it does). An undead hunter could provide you with a decent tank.
Stalker: If you're taking a swashbuckler, you might want to consider adding a stalker, if only for the backstab ability.

Hope this gives you some ideas! Remember, spicing it up isn't only in character selection, try using weapon types you hardly use as well.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
The kensai idea is interesting, but allowing him to use ranged weapons would be cheating.
I've narrowed it down to this:
-Barbarian or Wizard Slayer (never tried it, would probably be harder to play)
-Priest of Lathander or Cleric/Ranger - never played either except for a brief run with a C/R
-Swashbuckler or Assassin - with the Swash I'd be flanking and with the Assassin I'd be backstabbing
-Maybe a Druid. I rarely had one in the party, except for Jaheira.

If I decide to go with the Priest of Lathander I'll need to switch one of the others for a frontliner. I'm not taking any paladins this time through as I've just almost finished a run with Keldorn in the party and Carsomyr is overpowered anyway.

I've used a half orc wizard slayess and she worked well. Had her dual hand a pair of good axes. Not being able to use some of the trinkets was annoying but not something I couldn't work around. I also came to snicker sometimes when I was fighting a big spell casting bady and he/she started having trouble casting.

I've always like Undead Hunter paladins and you could just not use the sword if you feel it is overpowered. But that is up to you.

    Some interesting characters:

    Half-Orc Fighter/Thief for awesome backstabs.
----(An assassin or cleric/thief (gnome) is also good here.)
Monk -- these are flat out fun to play.
Shapeshifter -- again, a lot of fun.
Wild Mage -- just for something unusual.
----(Sorcerers are good here as well.)
Barbarian is always a incredible tank.

You really have four solid tanks with this party.
