    Has the game worked, ever?
What did you changed in your PC, before it stopped working correctly?

Install the latest patches and drivers...

You can eliminate BG2 + Diamond Monster Sound MX 300 because I had a Monster Sound board in my computer when I played BG2.

I experienced sound problems with WinXP and BG2 when I had EAX enabled. I have a different soundcard, though...

[IMG] Right, disable EAX. This usually solves most sound problems.

Had a problem with xp booting me out after 5 minutes of playing, but just put it down to not enough memory and bought some more, and has run fine and dandy ever since

Yip, it probably has to do with memory, either RAM or Video RAM. I'd suggest checking the Configuration settings. (Either use the GUI app for it in the BG2 program group off the start menu or edit the ini file in the BG2 install directory.)
