I can't find alchemist, D’hey Jazerrion either at the lever or in the alchemist lab.

I've fully explored the level and the one below. I've rested numerous times, and even went back to the level above and talked to the researcher and gone down.

I don't remember having this much problems finding the alchemist and I was wondering if I accidentally killed him.

However, when I check the southern lever it says someone is working on repairing it. Which would suggest that the alchemist is still alive, since he has yet to fully repair the lever.

I'm totally at a loss now. Wish the damn alchemist would appear already.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The alchemist doesn't appear until
you've found and "rescued" Mandal Graye for Nheero on the level above.

Just to make sure: have you talked to Nheero before and after finding Mandal? I remember that the story didn't proceed for me until Nheero explicitly gave me the quest to find Mandal and explicitly confirmed that I had found him. You may have to go through the dialogues again and explore all options.

    yah, thats the wierd thing.

after i found him and got the modified mandrake, i returned to the researcher and talked to him. explored all the areas on all the levels accessible up to this point.

i've replaced the mandrake in the lab with the modified, placed the wyvern talon things in the other lab desk.

I've killed the imposter npc with the cats. I've cleared the section with the statue of "snake devouring human" area.

I even returned to kuldahar in the hopes that would reset the dungeon and spawn the alchemist, all to no avail.

I've rested repeatedly, i've let the game sit idle and let time pass.

I've talked to the researcher repeatedly on numerous occassion. rested on diff levels and returned to the alchemy lab.

[IMG] Did you get his sword from the next level, return it to him, and watch the cutscreen as he points the mandrake root's location out to you?

returned the sword, listened to his tale, watched the cutscene, picked up the modified mandrake.

Wierd thing is the researchers conversation options lists, "We shall find his sword and return it to him, farewell"

even though, I've already returned the sword, watched the cutscene, and recovered the modified mandrake root.

this is so frustrating ><:mad:

[IMG] I looks like the game is messed up:(
Do you have an old save, so you can replay events in the proper order? It's mega frustrating, but it looks like the only way...

Yah, I've come to the same conclusion.

I've played the game several times before and I don't remember having this problem.

I've got an earlier save right before entering Dragon's eye. So, hopefully it will work.

I was enjoying the game a lot this time around. I've made a lazy man's party this time around. 3 melees, 1 cleric, 1 wizard, 1 bard. A lot less micro managing :) So, its been a lot of fun.

[IMG] My partys are becoming more and more spellcasting oriented, so there's a lot of micromanagement involved. In the distant past I had a paladin, a wizard, a barbarian, a cleric, a druid and a sorcerer.
My last pure melee character was a barbX/fighter4, but it was replaced by a bard with 6 strength - the least melee capable character so far;).
In my opinion, warriors just don't cut it, when compared to the variety of buffs available. My 2 clerics and druid are way better frontliners, just cast the appropriate buffs: Always Bless and Magic Circle, mostly Hope, often Recitation, Prayer becomes worthwhile too, Mirror Image, Iron/Stone/Barkskin, MASS HASTE! The high level buffs are just icing on the cake:p. Timing your buffs can be a pain, and judging the amount of buffs needed for an encounter can be tricky too. But that's the difference between a tactical game, and a straightforward hack-n-slash.

I used to over buff before too. but it became tedious to buff so i only cast spells as needed during battles.

I'm playing the regular version and not HOF mode, so most battles aren't too difficult. Besides the annoying battles where someone gets held, confused, charmed, and the like.

my 3 melees are barbx/fighter4, rangerx/fighter10, pure fighter. they do wonders except when one of the melees get controlled by the monsters... in which case the other 2 usually end up almost killing the controlled melee rofl. so i have to pay attention for that.

the only annoying thing about the bard is sometimes because of the bard script it will try to sing that siren song which i've yet to notice take control over the mobs. so that siren song seems to be a pointless bard skill. most of her other bard songs are very cool. my favorite being luck one.

mass dominate from my wizard is fast becoming one of my favorite spells. doesn't work all the time but using the enthralled as meat shields is always a pleasant thing to do.

[IMG] I read somewhere on the boards, that Magic Circle vs. Evil also gives charm immunity...
I checked the manual, and it's right there: gives [blablabla] and immunity to all charm-based spells.
:bigeyes:See what some simple buffing does? Magic Circle lasts for ages; you can go through most of the game with it active. I haven't had charm troubles since I properly buff my party. Not that my characters are easily swayed by enchantments; I get my saving throws so high, that they rarely fail a save. Especially my will saves are strong, what with my cleric & druid frontliners. The most weak-willed ones are my rogue/illusionist and bard, but they stay at the back, and their saves aren't really that weak. Clerical reflex saves are poor though, so I'm glad my drow frontliners can rely on Spell Resistance to avoid damage:).
I don't use scripts, so I never noticed the bard one. I guess I'm just a massive control freak:o. Seriously: Due to my precise buffing scheme, if I make just one error (like order someone to attack before she finished casting an important spell) then I'm inclined to reload:mad:.

lol... never would have thought circle spell would protect vs charms!! one of the reasons I love reading this forum. It brings a lot of little details I would have skipped over in the game to my attention.

Thats something I've yet to try, druids... Always figured they would be a weak caster and a weak melee compared to the pure classes.

[IMG] Druids in the vanilla game get a very bad deal; their best asset is shapeshifting and the Barkskin spell. The original shapeshifts are crummy, meaning you'd be better off with weapons and equipment most of the time. I liked the Air Elemental for its high Armour Class, but it still got hit way too often for my taste.
Barkskin is druids-only, so it seems like you'd need a druid if you ever want to use this spell. The 10 minutes per level duration isn't right, I'm afraid: It lasts about as long as the Bless spell, 1 minute/lvl or 10 rounds/lvl. This makes it much more short-lasting; something to keep in reserve for those big battles.
So overall, they get mostly poor offensive spells, disappointingly few buffs, and more expensive healing than clerics.

As a biologist, druids are close to my heart, so I make a point of it to install 'rebalancing' mods. The druid becomes so awesomely powerful, it's more like 'unbalancing':D. Ease-of-use's Additional Druid Spells component adds some more spells to their repertoire, all of which seem to make sense IMO. The Alternative Druid Shapeshifts component replaces the old shapes with more interesting transformations, the half-dragon transformations later on are unmatched in melee: The final Elemental Half-Dragon is immune to all elements, and wields a 3d6+4 enchanted slashing sword, +3d6 fire, +3d6 cold, +3d6 electrical, +3d6 acid:spin:!!! At 40 Strength + 8 from Champion's Strength, it gets a 19x1.5=28 strength damage on top of all that, making me glad I didn't choose a mangy warrior:p
Light of Selune mod also adds some alternative druid spells.
I like to mix in a level monk to get an Armour Class bonus from the Wisdom modifier (which even transfers to shapeshift forms! Shapeshifts allow for very few AC bonuses).
And I mix in a level Dreadmaster of Bane to get a +2WIS bonus later in the game.
Yup, the druid can be an insanely powerful character, with a little effort.

hmmmm while I took a smoke break I sort of had an epiphany....

I think the gate spell my cleric used during one of the earlier fights might have had something to do with my problem with the alchemist not showing up.

I think possibly since the alchemist did not have the circle of protection vs evil on him presumably... that maybe, just maybe the summoned demon might have ate the alchemist!!

hahahaha... wonder if that is what happened in my game.

    ---------- Added 2 hours, 37 minutes and 38 seconds later... ----------

Sweet, loaded earlier save (right at the entrance of dragon's eye), and played the game again. And, this time around the alchemist was at the lever as he was supposed to be. And, was able to make the posions, and the histachi brew.
