Problems installing on Vista

I have the DVD pack with BG1 + TotSC and BG2 + ToB.

When I put the DVD in the drive the langauge menu appears, then the baldur's gate setup starts. I click on install an nothing else happens.

How can Install BG2 on Vista? Is that possible?

 

You definitely can, I don't have the dvd version so I don't know if there's an issue with it but the game runs on vista.

 

I can also start the setup by running the setup file directly, but then I don't get to select English as the language, it defaults to german, like Vista uses. I don't want german, I want english. Can I change the language (in-game) by maybe copying files from the english folder once it has been installed in german?

 

is it the german version you have? if yes then, is it possible that you cannot change the language to english?

and i do not know why but i do not think it is possible to change the language post-install without a patch or something

 

No, it's the DVD compilation, normally the auto start opens a language selection where you can pick from several languages, the the installer starts in the selected langauge, but if I just run the setup itself it uses german. I guess it picks that automatically because of the OS being in german.

Thanks for the help. I now have it installed in English. I had to start the autostart as administrator to get it to function.

 

I didn't think about it before but with Vista you can get in all sort of problems if you install a game on your system drive and don't run it as admin. If you're thinking of tampering with your instal and messing with mods you'd better install it on another hard drive (provided you have one).

 

ok, but installed in in the default location and installed easy tutu and several tutu mods and they seemed to be ok! I use an admin account all the time, should I not? I remember that on xp it caused all kinds of problems not using an admin account. Also I could only install it by rightclicking on auto run and selecting run as administrator, even though it is an admin account.

 

Just be wary of compatibility files when you instal on your system drive. I lost all my BG2 saves because I forgot to back them up... I've found out that Vista won't let you modify/overwrite some files (like baldur.ini) so you have to copy them to another drive (even a storage device will do) to edit and save them.
Running the game as an administrator will probably make things run better.
Vista can be a real pain sometimes but strangely enough I've also found out it could run games XP couldn't run... Still some games have big issues with some configs with Vista.

Easy Tutu is one of the best mods there is (just be careful and save -in another slot- before entering Beregost as sometimes it used to crash the game and I don't know if this bug has been fixed yet -it was an issue in regular tutu as well).

By the way I'd suggest the Finch NPC mod if you're playing a good party you may like it.
