He's nasty snoty bastard
But he truly is powerful -- best mage in the game
But his character is almost as annoying as Anomen

Hey guys, what makes Haer Dalis so good? I had him first time I crashed htrough the game with my mage, but he was just for hackin' down. I mean, send in Haer Dalis, let him take the pain, make some too, and throw Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting with mage. Afterwards, resurrect tiefling with Viconia. That was my party.

And if you use him right there is a BIG chance he would win most of the battles

 

Well, I would say Aerie as best. Her Romance with the PC is absolutly beautiful and as a M/C she can do healing and support for the party. Barring that, Haer Dalis is also a favourite, Mazzy third. Then Minsc.

My most hated character would be Edwin, Korgan or Anomen. Edwin for his piousness, Korgan beacause he exists and Anomen needs no explanation.

Surely you must mean Anomen or Keldorn? Edwin doesn't have a pious bone in his body.

 

Are you kidding? Back at his boarding school in Thay, everyone used to call Edwin the "altar boy." He actually wanted to be a priest of Cyric, but he fell in with a bunch of paladins during high school and had to settle for magery.

 

I'd say my favorite is either Mazzy or Jan. Give Mazzy a strength increasing item, a good shortsword and shield and she is an excellent fighter. I also liked her dialogues with the rest of the party. As for Jan well he is the only character that is in all my parties wether good or evil. His gadgets make him an excellent thief and he's a decent mage to. His dialogues are also of course very funny.

 

I voted for Keldorn due to his versatility. HD (the blade) rocks too and I knew people'd vote for him the most. But Viconia is an evil cleric so when she turns undead...

Hmm, yes, Edwin do rock (indeed, foolish monkeys...) and I think (you think? Hah! Such being as me do not need to think!) that his amulet (the memento of Thay?) gives him a +1 to memorizable spells (indeed...foolish monkey, here, take this banana and go elsewhere...)

Lets have a look at...

My views of the NPCS which no-one cares about:

(Not in any order)

Minsc: Very good fighter, Has some spells and has hilarious dialog, whoever dosen't take Minsc in thier party is a fool, and will soon feel the wrath of Minsc and boos butt-kicking fury!

Boo: Is a fluffy giant mutant space hamster. Nothing else. Just had to mention him.

Airie: Nice selection of spells. Acts as a healer, Defender and attacker, but is pretty much worthless in psyical attacks. Cool romance if you're like me, I.E shy, and don't want a load of full on aggression like...

Viconia: Is a evil drow woman. Never had her in the party for long. Hate to say it but... Ugh... I like the skills she has. I dispise the character itself, but she's the best cleric in the game, and a good warrior. I decided to kill her later in the game.

Jan: The coolest turnip munching tale telling spell casting inuslting annoying gnome there is. He has plenty of spells to cast, and if you give him 2x enchanted bastard swords, he's actually rather good in combat. Worthwhile just for his conversations.

Edwin: The funniest char around. Most spells. Nuff said. Take him.

Korgan: He's Bloody funny, You don't take him and you get a bloody axe through ye skull! He is great at dual weilding, Give him a axe or a hammer and you're all set.

Jaheria: The most interesting char. Great druidical spells and a good tank. Give her a spear and nothing gets in her way. Also has a cool romance too.

Nalia: Is a very cool character. Has a nice storyline and her protrait looks cool. But if you want a good thief/mage, take Jan.

Imoen: Pretty. You won't get her until later on in the game. Has a lovley voice, but again, for a good thief/mage, take Jan.

Anomen: Self Righteous Git. Good fighter and plotline though, but supremley annoying. Kill him. Unless you're a female, whereupon its your only romance (Apart from some new downloadable chars, Kelsey for example)

Haer Daleis: If you have problems with the name, Do what I do: Call him 'Hairy Fleece' instead. Has some nice skills and a plotline to boot. Comes with two great swords. Gets a bit annoying later on. Alllllllmooostt a romance, but not quite.

Valygar: Has a cool voice, and is the only stalker in the game. Good hiding skills, and nice story too.

Mazzy: Everyones favorite halfing pladin . Best with bows, a critical hit almost every time . Sounds like mary poppins. Should be a romance, Damn you bioware. Fun to have.

Yoshimo: Funny lines, best at hiding, Good weapons, and you won't have him all the way through the game.

Keldorn: Brilliant guy, this. The only paladin in the game, Sounds like my English teacher. Give him Jan and Hairy fleece for some suprisingly hilarious conversations and maybe a song

Cernd: One of the duller chars, but is the only non-elven druid here. Not very good at meelee, but can shapeshift. In one of the later plotlines, watch his normal calm self go bonkers and spaz out as he threatens a certain person, Just to get his child back. Jahiera is better than cernd, but he does have a interesting plotline. Give him jan too. And Minsc.

I won't do the rest beacuse I'm a bit tired at the moment. Feel free to contradict me

Even though I've actually read your whole post I'm not in the mood for arguing about this. But still, which NPC did you wote for? Oh and please don't talk like that about about Viccy she becomes really sweat once you're done with the romance .

Oh and I voted for Viconia, particulary because of the romance.

I'd hoped to have been able to vote for other ones, I'd take Minsc, Airie, Jan, Jahiera, and Edwin.

And on the viconia romance, I know she goes all nice, but I REALLY can't stand her for some reason. I play as part of the blue mages (Something I made up, Primary colours light blue and secondary is dark green), Which is basically the opposite of the red wizards, In fact, they are opposing factions. Why take Edwin, you say? I don't think of him as much of a Red wizard, he's more indipendent. It even says in his biography that he's not much of a red wizard. And anyway, he's cool

 

Anomen is a good cleric...and since he can reach up to stars in a weapon he's rather good!!

Jan is useless in combat but a good everything else. He can detect traps in matters of seconds.

Korgan killed an Adamantite Golem in level 11 in my game.

Keldorn can use the Casomyr thingie, give him a Bracers of Dex and you're set.

Valygar...? Dual-Wield him with his Katana and Celestial Fury.

I just realized recently that Haer'Dalis is quite good, a decent fighter...and can cast spells.

I like Aerie.

That rock Golem...I ought to change it when I next contribute something here.

 

I started to very much like Anomen as well despite his personality
being a fighter is a very welcoming thing with a cleric

 

MINSC!!!!!!!! I prefer NPCs of they're other qualities such as background, dialogue and quests over they're fighting ability anyways.

 

Jan is the best! Not only is he the best thief due to his awesome items, he can also cast mage spells, although admittedly he is not a great mage. At the end of the game, with a belt of giant strength he can backstab awesome and has all the thief skills, including detect illusion, which the other thiefs probably do not.

 

It all depends what you want personally

Best Characters for various aspects you may want (IMHO)

'Softcore' Romance - Aerie
'Hardcore' Romance - Viconia
Short amusing dialogue - Minsc
Looong amusing dialogue - Jan
Rude dialogue - Korgan
Powermonger dialogue - Edwin

Keldorn is indeed powerful, but boring.
Anomen is sickening - yet i confess to having played as a female (i am male) just to see how bad his romance was... (am i the only one - is this REALLY what women want???)

I haven't done the Jaheira romance (well not past the point of choosing her from Aerie or Viconia - i prefer those two!) and doubt I ever will - she just doesn;t turn me on!

Mazzy is nice it's a shame you can't have romance with her - ok, she's short but so what?

As for power, once Viconia has the Strength Belt (Adventure Mart) she's good and once she has Crom Faeyr she is amazing!

Also Mazzy with the Gesen Bow shoots fast and hits almost every time!

But you probably know most of this already!

 

Yoshimo is the man! Granted...he ends up betraying you (minor spoiler) but it wasn't his choice. Give the guy a break! He's just too funny with his Asian looks and accent. Who doesn't love your everyday mysterious little theif guy?

Minsc and Anomen are the other two cooler guys...although I did not particularily like Anomen at first, he got a better attitude after his test and after some proficiencies in the flail. Then armed with a new outlook, Flail of Ages, and knighthood he was pretty darn cool. (Minsc doesn't need an explanation...he's just plain awesome)

I think my favorite girls have to be Jaheira and Imoen (after she hardens her characture). Who doesn't love a tough girl with a bad attitude? Well, the attitude needs improvement...but we'll live. Imoen is insightful, optomistic, got some useful spells....and oh yeah! She's a spawn of the God of Murder. Isn't life just ironic?

 

Have you actually done the Anomen Romance all the way thru with a female protagonist? Trust me you need infinite patience with that arrogant chump! Granted - equipped up and knighted he is a good fighter/cleric, but how any woman could bear a man like him in reali life is a mystery...!

Imoen seems shallow and talks as if shes on or withdrawing from the effects of certain narcotics most of the time... not really my sort of girl. Aerie is ok - currently she is my romance as I haven't done her to the end yet.

Of course (for me) Viconia is the best romance - she's tough but kinky

Jaheira - I just don't like her

Mazzy, she's so cute and heroic - shame there is no romance (although her and Korgan together in the same party has some amusing anecdotes...)
