Best Way to Gain Levels?

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by Zaragoth, Jul 6, 2001.

I´m trying to get my Kensai up to lv.12 quickly, so that I can dual him to a Mage or Thief (wich is best by the way?) but it takes so long to gain levels!
Is there any particular quest that gives you MUCH! experience? :)
    Thx fer answering...

Hey, tal. I see you are answering me. The Who´s Online section´s great!

Well if you do all the quests around Athkatla you should have plenty of experience.

    P.S.
Could you stop putting dots in each of your topic headlines Zaragoth? It's annoying having to edit them out all the time since they are not necessary. In case you haven't noticed, none of the headlines have dots in them.
And if your topic is a question, make a questionmark after it, not a dot.

The topic should be "Best Way to Gain Levels?"
I'm sure you can make that effort without having the mods do it for you.

i think the best way, w/o cheating, is to go Solo while you do most of the easy-medium quests in Athkatla and De`Arnise Keep

Stronghold quest & Umar Hills affair w/3 man party usually gave me enough exp to go for Spellhold right after.

[IMG] If your in the under dark and need to make the quick lvl, you could try to find the three elemental portals, of which summon loads of fire, air, and earth elementals, each of which giving you a hefty sum of exp.

Indeed, if it's only about your main character to gain soon much levels, I would advice to push everybody or everybody except one other character, make him or them very good by giving al the best items to them and keeping stuff stuff of the others. Then your party is only 1 or two or 3 characters. The XP you will gain by doing quests will now not be devided over 6 characters but less.

So when you kill a creature that gives 12000 XP, you would normally all get 2000 XP. Now when you play alone, your main character will get 12000 XP, when you play with a party of 2 you will get 6000 XP and when playing with 3 you all get 4000 XP per creature, that will say with a party of 3 you'll level up 2 times faster then with a party of 6.

After you gained enough levels you can let the characters you did throw out of the party rejoin your party.

Headbanger's right. About what to choose ... I am a thief fan, if they are single classed, multiclassed oir dualclassed. My first char in BG-2 was a dc kensai-thief (lvl-6 fighter/ thief from BG-1). However, I liked my thiefs to be dressed up properly with an elven chain and a leather armor, so I prefered the pure fighter-thief. Dc kensai & fighter-thiefs are a great class to play.

However, having a kansai as your first class, a mage would be great to dual to. I don't think that you'd wait till lvl-12, lvl-9 is good enough (it was for me) - with a kensai you should avoid melee anyhow since you will probably have a relatively poor AC. I finally had grandmastery in staffs :D and further specialised in daggers (as ranged weapons). My char had a great THACO and good hitpoints and when he attacked he hit hard and fast. However, since a mage is a spellcaster he will usually stand a bit behind to prevent him from getting hit, disturbing his spellacsting. So IMHO I'd recommend lvl-9 do dual him to a mage.

If you have ToB go to Watcher's Keep. A lot of experience to be had there. Each of my guys leveled up about four times.

[IMG] This forum is BG2 ONLY. I thought we've established this already. Or do you need any additional explanations on what this means?

My "genius" separated the boards for a reason, belive it or not. Not to annoy you, but to spare people that don't have ToB yet of spoilers. Except for USA, the game has not been released anywhere else yet.
