Specialist Mages bonuses?

I got a question: Does the for example Necromancer get any dmg bonus or so when casting Necromancy spells?

 

No.

 

A friend of mine told me that specialist mages get bonuses to spellcasting times and maybe something else ONLY to their specialty school. He's not a very trustworthy guy, so can anybody confirm or negate?

 

I can.

Specialist Mages get one bonus spell per spell level of their school. But are disadvantaged on the fact that they are rpohibited from one other school.

example:

Brovin the Illusionist gets an Extra spell from each of the 9 Levels, but has to pick one Illusion spell each for one of them. He can also not pick any of the Necromancy spells beacuse they are from his Prohibited School.

And try to dual a mage from a plain thief or fighter, and from a kit like swashbuckler or kensai, there is a difference. Using a kit you will get the plus spell as you would be a specialist...

 

additionally they receive a +2 bonus to saving throws against spells of their own school and a -2 deficit against those of the opposite..

Cool, so it doesn't make a difference if I amInvoker or Necromancer if I am to cast an Invocation/Evocation spell?

 

The saving throw bonus is not implemented. In BG2, a speacialty school gives you an extra spell slot of each spell level that you can use for any spell you can cast, But you loose the ability to cast spells, scrolls from your prohibitited school(s).

Also you get a 15% bonus to your chance to scribe scrolls from your specialty school whereas you loose a 15% for your chance to scribe scrolls from every other spell school.

And that's all it does. Basicly you're not choosing a specialty school but rather a prohibited school...

 

Thanks you. That means I'll stick with Conjurer *if* I make a specialist mage.

 

Necromacer... only Necromancers and Sorcerers *if* I play as a Spell Caster =D

Since when were mages able to Scribe Scrolls?
But i would agree that they should be able to!

Invoker - A Necromancer for example can't scribe ANY Illusionist (bad spelling?) scrolls; he can't cast them as "Quick Spell" directly from the scroll.

I know that in AD&D rules Invokers get extra damage (+1d6) to lightning bolts and fireballs but I don't know if this applies in BG2.
