I have installed both SOA and TOB on my new Vista Machine and I can't get any mods to install on it. I also can not save a new baldur.ini file. Notepad won't let me save it. Any suggestions on what to do? Or can I not play BG2 on my Vista Machine.

Also now the sound on my computer is messed up. I'm trying to listen to my MP3s and I can barely hear it at full blast.

Its a permissions issue - you installed the game into Progam Files right?

I'm not on Vista right now, but as far as I remember you need to right click the folder and allow everyone access. I'm not sure exactly how to do that but I would suggest looking at the security tab.

Another option is to install the game to a different folder, eg C:bad:Games.

Have you updated Vista and your sound drivers? Make sure that you have Vista SP1 and updated drivers for your soundcard.

I do have Vista SP1. How do I check out my sound card and drivers? I uninstalled BG2 and I'll try reinstalling it in c:/games.

Hi there, I recently installed BG2 on my new Notebook, with Vista of course...
My problem now is a different one, but maybe it is because of Vista, too. Installing and starting the game works fine, but the graphics are messed up...I have an NVIDIA graphics-card and tried to enable the OpenGL options in its Config-tool, but it fails to remember them. Baldur's Gate is not listed and not saved when I enter it manually. Help is really apreciated since BG is still - and probably will - one of my favourite games :)

What's wrong with the graphics exactly?

As of right now, with the NVIDIA card, I'm going to say it's DirectDraw that's the problem (big black boxes around all the objects). The only fix I've found for this is to disable DirectDraw. The only problem with Vista is that it requires DirectDraw to run and therefore, can't be disabled. Hopefully, somebody else can be of more help.

I'm pretty sure your problems are related to your gfx cards (a lot of people have issues with never GeForce cards and Infinity Engine games).

The link Chandos posted is mighty helpful. You can also try the settings I used when I got ToB running smoothly on my rig (Geforce 9800GTX, vista 64-bit) at 1280x1024.

First you disable everything in your nvidia profile (or set it to application controlled - Antianialisng, SLI, the lot) - or if you use nHancer you can try my profile out: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=COL61QF2
You probably also want to run in Win XP compatibility mode.

Then alter your baldur.ini to this:

    Code:

Should obviously be changed to your actual game path ;),

If it still won't run smoothly keep fiddling with the various settings in your baldur.ini.

    Good luck! :thumb:

    Wonderful it works :)
So now in the right order: my problem were flickers and the cursor leaving a trail of itself. Turning off VSync and Triple Buffer as suggested in the thread did the trick, actually quite simple - when you know it :D (which I didn't^^).
Lucky me doesn't has to change that much in inis, so less changes to screw it up;) New technology is not always such a good thing (at least conerning compability:p ) But was confused me also was the NVidia tool not saving BG's options after adding its profile manually, when I shut it, no trace was left of the changes i made, which re-enable or support OpenGL...
Thank you all very much, I'll bookmark the thread and have a look at that froum, too in case I have (hopefully not) other problems.
Now my sorcerous alter ego hopes to be created xD
Have at least as much fun as I'll have again in Toril
