Currently ive been trying to install icewind dale 2 again. But my setup.exe crashes the instant it starts, for no reason i can see.

Ive tried going through the troubleshoot, running in safe mode, placing on my hardrive....everything.

Can anyone recommend any fixes that are not on the troubleshoot faq on the main sorcerers palace website.

if you need any computer info just say so.

[IMG] The only explanation I can think of, is that your disk is scratched, and setup.exe is now unreadable.
Does it happen with other games too? Then you might have some sort of virus that disables the install-shield program.

Have you completely eliminated your previous installation of IWD2 (including registry files)? It may be some leftovers from last time that are conflicting with setup.exe

Ive tried using the -cleanregistry option as described in the technical FAQ and that setup crashes too, and ive removed all trace (that i can find) of the installation from the registry.

[IMG] check in the program list if Icewind Dale 2 is still listed there. Maybe your PC think's it's installed, so setup won't run. I have such problems with Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn frequently after uninstalling. Never had it with ID2, but you never know...

Use a USB stick to copy the entire game directory from your friend's computer to yours.

If your CD drive has a different letter, you may also need to edit the first few lines of icewind2.ini file (pretty straightforward).

Perhaps you're running anti-virus or some other program that's keeping you from installing Icewind Dale 2?

Also, if your friend patched their copy and you copied it over; it should be patched already.
