Yes, so once again my interests have shifted. I found some Black Flag vinyls at the flea market a few weeks ago, and I got them. Not exactly knowing what to expect, I gave a few spins to those veterans, and more than a few of those songs became instant classics. Being a fan of Hardcore (I'm talking about the music style... pry your mind from the gutter), it was interesting to hear some hardcore punk.

I'm usually not a punk fan, but Black Flag's hardcore punk style totally does it for me, despite the occasionally corny songs. Anything in the vein that would be worth my while?

If you have not already heard these guys - The Clash - London Calling. Great stuff, DotW.

Bad Brains, Discharge, Dead Kennedys are from the same era and absolutely worth checking out. Clash is great although I don't think they are hardcore ;) .

Bad Brains and Minor Threat added to my collection. So far, so good, though so far I find Black Flag's "My War" seriously tough to dislodge. Hearing the forefathers of the hardcore genre sticks in my head like nothing else before. Pity Black Flag broke up soon after the change... this Black Flag, IMO, could have solidified it's legacy as one of the forefathers of hardcore.

    There's Green Day? *chuckles*

No, seriously, there's the Sex Pistols that are a more hardcore brit punk band than the Clash (although the Clash is better in my humble opinion...).

    The Ramones!

Yay for the Dead Kennedys! (''Too drunk to F**k'', what a song... lol)

Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All and Blood For Blood, although they all are somewhat metal/rock/crossover-influenced (and commercially successful :) ).

Oh, and "Terveet Kädet" of course. A real underground/cult-legend. If Max Cavalera likes it, it can't be bad!

Aren't they considered 'pop-rock' now? Lousy Emo losers...

Although I'm not a fan, you might like Misfits...

They were always considered pop rock. I'm even wondering if they deserve the punk part... :D

I second the recommendations for Dead Kennedys and Minor Threat and I also strongly recommend Refused and their album "The Shape Of Punk To Come". It is a great introduction to the band and is one of my all time favorite albums. If you like it you should probably check out "Songs To Fan the Flames of Discontent" and "This Just Might Be... the Truth" too.

There's also I Spy which was a great hardcore band from Canada and most of their discography can be found on their awesome album "Perversity Is Spreading... It's About Time!" so check it out.

Then There's Los Crudos which features lyrics in Spanish. Also the singer is now the frontman for one of the best Queercore bands ever, namely Limp Wrist.

Born Against and Youth of Today are also pretty good bands

Add the Sex Pistols to the list of good English punk bands.
