I know I've installed IWD before on this computer, at least 80% sure. I'm running Windows XP, but now anytime I click install from the autorun it just stops and nothing pops up.
I've tried the other .exe's on the disc and none will start installing so I was wondering if there's some trick I'm forgetting.

    EDIT:
It started up a couple hours after I first tried to install, so sorry for the post.

I'd be willing to bet you still have the installation temp file on the computer and reference to the game in your registry.

It is possible she deleted it off the hard drive and did not use the windows uninstall function on the control panel. You might check in the add/remove programs part of the control panel -- if it's still there just select to delete, follow the instructions and you should be able to reinstall.

If that doesn't work, CCleaner may be able to help -- it's a great computer hard drive cleaning tool which removes these type of things. Run both the Cleaner and fix the registry. Once the evidence of a previous installation is gone you should be able to install.

Hopefully one of the computer guru's will check this and offer additional advice.

I love the IWD games and understand the desire to immerse yourself in the game. I would just use disgression in the future and don't piss off your sister -- she sounds as vindictive as mine were ;). Save often (and your saves may still be on the computer, use Windows Explorer to see if the files are still there).

ive looked everywere, but i cant find a single trace of any of the icewind dale programs, not on the harddrive, recycle bin, uninstall programs list, i even resorted to typing it in on the computers Search function...but nothing

    EDIT:
i tried to install DirectX, but it said it was already installed, and i cant find anything on my computer about that either, so my guess is that DirectX is still installed somewere, and i need to take it off before i can reinstall Icewind Dale, but how do i find whatever it is that is associated with DirectX?

[IMG] DirectX isn't just used by IWD2 so leave it alone on there ;)

Have you tried the program T2Bruno said?

Also HOW is it not letting you install it? Is there no install option on the splash screen when you insert the CD into the drive? Does installation crash at a certain point?

the IwD prompt will pop up, itll let me click install, but then nothing happens, the screen just goes away. and i ran the CClean program...didnt help at all.
so then i came to a friends house and installed it onto my ipod, i figured that would allow me to take the game with me, and keep it from getting deleted.....i got it installed and it works great...but it wont let me install heart of winter, it says "Setup could not find installation of Icewind Dale. Please install Icewind Dale before continuing. Setup will now exit." now i know theres a way for me to get Heart of Winter on my ipod....im just not good enough with computers to do it....can someone help me with this new problem...or is it not possible to get heart of winter on my ipod?

[IMG] When you install HoW it checks that IWD is installed on the registry on the computer - unless it can detect it there it won't let you install it. Unless you can go to your friends house again and do it from there - even though IWD isn't on his computer - it should still be in the registry there.

How were you able to do it?

Providing that info may help the next person with the issue.
