I found my ranger can't cast any spell when wearing the black dragon scale.how can I slove this problem?Do I need a patch or something else?

 

Have you taken the armoured arcania feat?

The Black Dragon Scale is a mod item, from the Merchant mod I believe. I don't have a full ranger, so I can't check if there are spellcasting problems with mine. But it seems like this is a rather strange malfunction, are the ranger's spells greyed out when wearing the armour?
If you also have Ease-of-use mod installed, then it's necessary to update your WeiDU installer first. Maybe you should reinstall all your mods...

 

YES it is gray out.I don't have any mod installed(i think),how can I slove this problem? Do I need to install that EOU mod?

 

You have something called the Black Dragon Scale, but with no mods installed?
Then I don't even know what you're talking about. Just don't use it then...

Now I recognize it. Well, none of my casters have any problem with it. But I don't have a ranger to test with.

my game is v2.01(101615).I didn't patch anything.It is just the same as when I installed it.

My bard can't cast spell with the scale.

 

My bard has no problems with it, neither do my other casters. It's a puzzling problem, and I can't help you with it. I doubt anyone else can either. If you really want to use the item, try reinstalling and reloading your saved game.

 

I searched this problem and found that someone had meet this before but none got sloved. Only kabuki man said he could handle this but his latest message was in 03.

 

The Dragon Scale, together with a number of other mod-introduced items are a left-over from 2ed engine limitation. They simply disable arcane spellcasting when worn. The normal armors do not outright disable, just give you a chance to miscast.

 

So I can't use it if I want to cast spell? Anything I can do to use it?

 

Well I never experienced any issues with the items. I guess it may be due to this component in Ease-of-use mod:

To update, copy the WeiDU exe-file in the WeiDU zip, and rename it to replace Setup-IWD2-Ease.exe, then run it once and the installer will be updated.

 

So you mean I shall download the Weidu exe and rename it to setup iwd2_ease.exe and run it?

 

I don't really know anything about coding but are you sure on this? I had a mod armour (I'm pretty sure it was the dragon scale) disable special abilities for me before. The button was greyed out and I couldn't click through to access the abilities underneath. This only happened on one character on one run through so it seemed a bit more complex than a simple "no spells allowed" bug.

I was able to get around it by right clicking another button on the taskbar I wasn't using so that I could access Expertise directly (as opposed to going through the special abilities button). That was the only ability I wanted anyway, I don't know how practical this is in your case. It might be worth trying though to see if you can access your spells that way.

 

Thank you for helping me.But I don't quite understand your method.You mean you have a blank button on your taskbar and you right click that button to definite new ability then you can get to your ability.Am I right? I tried this but unfortunately it didn't work.

You meet this bug on one character on one run.You didn't install any patch or mod? Maybe I should go another run.

 

Yeah, I think you got what I meant. It was just changing the taskbar at the bottom. It was weird, I couldn't create a special abilities button without it being greyed out but I could create a shortcut to the actual abilities themselves perfectly ok and it had no problem letting me use them.

I would have been patched with the ease of use and bonus items mods. I'm pretty sure it was the black dragon scale bonus item which was funny but can't be sure.

I don't think I'd be any use beyond this I'm afraid, I just thought I'd suggest it as a workaround that worked in a similar situation.

 

Yes, you rename the WeiDU.exe to Setup-IWD2-Ease.exe, then run it and it will update the installer. This way it's safe for you to install this mod with others. If you don't care about other mods atall, then even this is unnecessary.
As for the disabling effect: if you have a character with a mix-in class, the chances of this occurring are greatly reduced. I've never encountered the problem.

 

thank you all of you, I finally slove this. I found the scale's file 00HIDE05.ITM in the iwe2-easy folder and copy it to repalce the one in my override folder.Then it work.I can enjoy my game now.Thank you for all your help.

 

That's another way to do it. You may as well drop ALL the bugfix files into Override while you're at it. Enjoy.
