Hey guys, so after a few years of not playing BG2, I am going at it again! Here is what I am thinking about:

PC: Assassin
Kelsey
Jaheira
Korgan

Not sure if I want a 4 or 6 person party - if I go with six, I will add Viconia and Edwin.

Also, should I be female and romance Kelsey or male and romance Jaheira?

And, mods I am thinking about using:
UB
Ease-of-Use (for the leaving area noise)
Rogue Rebalancing
Kelsey
Dungeon-be-gone
perhaps Item Upgrade (I love Pitchwife and CF +5)

I know there is a mod that improves the thief stronghold, but I forget the name; does anyone remember?

So, general thoughts/inquiries for you guys: Are these mods all stable? Are there any more you would suggest for a thief aficionado? Should I be a straight thief (so I can get more rogue points in general) or an assassin? I love backstabbing and such, but I also find setting traps and pickpocketing to be of huge use - would a straight thief or an assassin be better in a 4-person party? A 6-person party?

The assassin's big thing is the name and poison. If you like those then keep as is. If you like rogue abilities I would suggest keeping a general rogue for those.

Bounty Hunter could serve as a compromise-less rogue points than normal but still more than an assassin, plus you get to keep backstabbing and get better trap skills/setting.

 

Questpack includes additional shadow thieves content I think.

Those all look fine, I seem to remember something about Ease of Use being deprecated in favour of BG2 Tweaks, I dont think it makes much difference though.

 

I don't like Rogue Rebalancing as it unbalances stuff (but that's just me).

Don't forget that poison works well with ranged attacks (short bow of speed for instance, the more attacks you get the more useful poison will be especially if you spread your shots).

A thief is all about micromanagement, with enough levels and a few magic items your Assassin will be as good as a regular Thief with the added bonus of uber backstab.

Regarding mods I'd suggest picking Assassinations which does what it says it does in a very satisfactory way.

If you want to try something different then you should give the Angelo romance a try (I didn't test it but I bet it has to be deeper than romancing Kelsey who, let's face it, is still a glorified accountant).

 

Any opinions on the 4 or 6 person party?

Also, are there any really good quest mods out there? (Besides Assassinations... I read the review and it sounds sweet!)

 

I'd go with 4 main and a rotating 5th for more XP and convenience.

Tower of Deception and Dungeon Crawl are both adventures and the Quest pack ties a few loose ends together.

 

Yeah, I'm doing 4 (Korgan, Kelsey, and Jaheira) with a 5th depending on what quest I need them for (like, Valygar for the Sphere, Nalia for the Keep, etc).

I installed:

Rogue Rebalancing (parts of it)

Dungeon-be-gone
Item Upgrade
errr and a few others, but I forget which.

I will definitely try Tower of Deception, Dungeon Crawl, and Angelo next run through (which won't be for a while, but I think I have enough new stuff on my plate for now). Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh, also, quick quesiton: how do I check whether a romance is active? CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("JaheiraRomanceActive","GLOBAL"), right? Or does that reset it?

GetGlobal cannot reset anything as it is just checking a value not accessing it, so yes, your command is correct for checking it

 

I believe it is:

CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("AerieRomanceActive","GLOBAL")

To see if you have a romance going (with 1 indicating ongoing, 2 completed, and 3 indicating the pair of you have broken up).

Jaheira, Viconia, and so on can be checked by inserting the correct name where Aerie's is (which, obviously, you don't have to do if you are romancing her).

It looks right but there shouldn't be a space anywhere in the word "GLOBAL" for it to work-not sure if that was a typo or not.

 

The forum software adds a space between a certain number of characters automatically, your post has it also if you have a look again.

Cool, thanks, it's still on 1. I did something I thought she might dislike (extorted Surly's dog fighting ring).

And found a problem with SimDing's Quest Pack - if you extort Surly, he says he will pay, but even after a week he continues to say, "Don't get greedy, wait until the week is up," or something like that.

Also, I decided to add Viconia because I need more healing and a bit more 'thud' power in the front... so I am going with 5 person party... upsetting because it is less XP, but it is necessary, so...
