    I have spoken to Lothander to get the first half of the antidote (then killed him) and went to see Marek,killed him and got his antidote but simply drinking it didn't seem to do anything.
    How do you cure yourself?

    IIRC that's all there is to it. You won't be notified of any problems relating to the poison after this.

    but Marek's antidote doesn't disappear and my walkthrough said I would get 10000 XP for curing the poison.
    Is it lying???
    Surely not!!

    Nope, the antidote never disappears (kinda handy actually); I don't know about the XP.

    The potion of Marek has more "charges"... I never tried what happens when you don't fix this quest within 10 days.... but you only have to drink one charge and then the problem is fixed. The loot is the 10000 XP for killing Marek... and of course the Eagle Bow.

    I never needed to drink it. It just said 'You have been cured of Marek's poison' when I talked to him and he attacked.

    If you don't solve this poison problem in 10 days, your whole party dies.

    Can't remember for sure, but maybe you have to rest after drinking the potion.

    Does it update your journal after you drink the potion? or do you have to do something before the quest is over?

    No, the quest is solved automatically after you killed Marek. You don't have to drink the potion, you can just use it as a normal Antidote when you are poisoned.
