Elven Chain

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by Lord Sarevok, Dec 19, 2001.

I love this armor! It makes my fighter/mage look so cool that I rarley cast stoneskin anymore unless I have to! I headed straight to Trademeet this time to get it as well as Belm and Rashad's Talon(two scimitars that look really cool together, and Belm is especially nice giving an extra attack per round and a 0 speed factor).

I know there are a few other pairs out there(besides those obvious ones in the Elven City) and I think I know where to get them all, I just want some clarification on a few particular pairs.

1.I know you can get the Jesters Chain from the token machine, and does this armor count as elven chain? I'm pretty sure it was green chainmail last time I got it but I'm not sure if it's actually elven chain.

    2. I heard that you can get some drow elven chain in the Viconia romance from a assassination attempt on Viconia. I'd like to get the stats on this if anyone knows them.

    Thanks ahead of time!

The best elven chain is a drow bladesinger chain, which you can acquire in Suldnessilar(elven city) from the black dragon. It is AC 1 and looks so cooool! Also it can be upgraded later on...

I already know about that, but I'm in no rush to go to Suldensallar, let alone fight a black dragon with my level 10/11 fighter/mage.

Well, I played the Viconia romance too once.... I believe the Drow chain you acquire is AC 4, and I also seem to remember having a problem with my mage-thief using it (???), but I'm not sure if that's just a bug or what. It looks brownish though....

Normal (green) elven chain doesn't though.

As for the Jester's Chain, can only be used by Bards AND - as far as my experience goes - you can't actually cast spells whilst wearing it - which is pretty crummy

    Lord Sarevok...
You probably mean the Dark Elven Chain, the loot from the handmaiden of Lolth.
    Here are its stats:
    AC: 4
    weight: 8
    requires: strength 5
Can be used by thieves with few penalties (dont ask me what) and can be used by fighter/mage without loosing the spellcasting ability!
Hope thats suits you fine! ;)

Darn, too bad I'm an elf so I can't romance her and get that armor, oh well.

I wouldn't be too concerned, since most Elven chain is equally good. Either that or you'll have something better at the time you receive it anyway!

If you're really desperate, Lord Sarevok, you COULD create it using the console - but bear in mind there's only one suit in the game for balance purposes; but AC4 braces are just as good, and you can wear a ring or amulet of protection - i don't believe you can with the Dark Elven Chain

Nah, it's not about that. I already have the bracers of AC 3 which pretty much negate any bonus from the chain. It's all about the looks man :). Brown colored elven chain would look awsome! Maybe I can find another pair in the underdark...

As far as I know, the Dark Elven Chain is equal to to an Elven Chain mail +1, but I dont know anything of the looks, brown must be cool, though!

I think there is drow elven chain that reduces spellcasting speed by 1, that you can only wear in the Underdark.

Just talk to the guy in the City Gates district, he'll put it on your map. His name escapes me but he shouldn't be too hard to find.

    About Dark Elven Chain...

Yes, it is AC 4, weight 8, min str to get it is 5.
It is unusable by pure druid or mage (multi or dual can wear it).

    But:
It is unusable by good and neutral NPCs.
    Penalties for thieving skills are:
    Stealth -10
    Lockpick -5
    Traps -5
    Pickpocket -20

Jester's Chain is not near Elven Chain. Jester's Chain is AC+1 which is lower than any green chain armor, and besides that Jester's Chain prevents mages from spellcasting. Finally, Jester's Chain does not have any thieving penalty, all green chains do have.

  15. The guy who is at the Gity Gates and wants help in the druid quest is Flydian.

One thing to add about Jester's Chain: It can be worn by anyone who can use chainmail.

Edit: Another foolish mistake on my part. ;)

[IMG] Ragusa, have you read what I posted above?

Green chain armors affect thieving abilities. Conclusion: Elven (green) chains any thief CAN wear.
