[IMG] Is it possible to install BG2 on my Win7 machine and then copy the mods and save game to my Vista laptop?

Don't know about win7, but we have tested this inbetween a vista and an XP machine with unsatisfactory results. You will be able to run the game and even play your transferred saved game, but You will face various forms of unpredictable glitches and bugs during the game.

Remains to be seen if the glitches are caused by the OS switch or any, however minor, difference in how you have installed the game into the two different computers. You know, installation order, patching order, modding order, any overrides done and in which order..

[IMG] Well thoeretically you simply need to install it onto the secondary machine and copy the entire game directory over it to lay down the same installation.

This is what I was wondering if I can do. My apologies for not being more clear. Two, vanilla install BG2's for both the Vista laptop and Win7 desktop. Mod up the Win7 machine, then if I need to play on the go copy my entire Win7 BG2 to the Vista laptop.

Yes, we did the tests with this point in mind. The two installations were 100% identical; nonetheless, transferring a saved game from one OS to another led to unsatisfactory results.

My recommendation to the OP is to start a new game on his new machine to be safe.

Darn it. Not the answer I was hoping for but good to know, at least, before I make a faulty install. Thanks!

I have done this before and hadn't encountered any issues, whether switching between WinXP and Vista or between two Win7 machines. As long as both installations are identical, you shouldn't find any problems.

In case of a modded game, safest thing to do is copy over your game folder to the other computer and run it from there, if that's possible.

    No harm in trying, right?
